The writer does not need to repeat flood in every sentence. Related vocabulary carries continuity.

Repetition is not automatically bad writing

If an essay is about trust, the word may need to reappear.

Replacing it mechanically with faith, belief and confidence can make the paragraph less precise.

A key term can act as an anchor.

Synonyms create softer chains

A passage may move among:

young learners

These expressions may overlap in context.

That field helps readers predict the kind of information likely to come next.

Lexical chains can help infer unfamiliar words

If a paragraph contains:

crops
soil
farmers
irrigation

the field suggests agriculture and water before a dictionary is opened.

The chain narrows meaning without supplying a complete definition.

Lexical shifts reveal structure

A passage may move from:

environmental cost

financial pressure
expenses

lenders

The lexical field has shifted from environment to finance.

That may signal a new paragraph job or dimension of the argument.
