Primary 6 Vocabulary Practice Answers No.01082017 | Context, Precision and Better Word Choice

—

by

Three primary students in matching blue pinafores work together over open books at a classroom table, with colourful stationery and lesson notes on a whiteboard.

Primary 6 Vocabulary Practice Answers

This answer page belongs to the original 1 August 2017 vocabulary exercise. The answer set is preserved below exactly as the learning core of the resource.

  1. confide
  2. engage
  3. drop out
  4. drop off
  5. revolution
  6. prestigious
  7. interfere
  8. hire
  9. honourable
  10. shamefully

What This Exercise Is Really Testing

This is not simply a synonym exercise. The student has to choose the word that best fits the sentence in meaning, grammar and context.

Several options may look possible at first. The stronger answer is the one that survives all three checks: does the word mean the right thing, does it fit the sentence structure, and does it sound natural in the situation?

How Parents Can Use the Answers

Do not stop at right or wrong. Ask the child to explain why the chosen word fits and why one tempting alternative does not.

That turns marking into a vocabulary judgement exercise rather than a memory test.

A Better Correction Routine

  • Identify the clue in the sentence.
  • State the intended meaning in simple words.
  • Compare two plausible options.
  • Check grammar and collocation.
  • Rewrite the full sentence with the final choice.

Transfer Test

After correction, ask the student to use each difficult word in a new sentence with a different context. If the word only works in the original worksheet, the learning is not yet secure.

Why This Matters for Primary 6 English

Vocabulary becomes useful when a student can select precisely under pressure. The important skill is not merely knowing more words, but knowing which word belongs in this sentence and why.
