Agreement Across Evidence

If table, diagram and observation all support the same mechanism, confidence rises.

But agreement should come from genuinely different evidence roles, not the same data repeated three times in different formats.

When Evidence Conflicts

Suppose:

  • table suggests Plant A grew more;
  • photograph suggests Plant B looks larger;
  • starting heights were different.

Do not average the disagreement away.

Ask:

  • which evidence directly measures the target variable?
  • which representation may be visually misleading?
  • which baseline is relevant?

The Conflict Test

Before making a strong claim, look for at least two different reasons where the task provides them:

  • measured outcome;
  • controlled setup;
  • known mechanism;
  • repeat trial;
  • related observation.

One strong reason may be sufficient for some questions, but multiple consistent reasons strengthen interpretation.

Triangulation vs Evidence Dump

Weak answer:

“The graph went down, the table had 52, the diagram had arrows, and the water was cold.”

This lists evidence without integrating it.

Stronger:

“The table and graph both show a temperature decrease, while the setup diagram shows only the insulation condition differs. Together with the heat-transfer model, this supports the conclusion that the wrapping slowed cooling.”

The Integration Sentence

Use:

“Because A shows ___ and B independently shows ___, together they support ___.”

This forces the learner to state the relationship between evidence sources.

Triangulation in PSLE Questions

PSLE Science may combine:
