A building may be photographed at dawn before people arrive, immediately after cleaning, during unusual light or from a momentarily empty plaza. Those decisions can reveal form beautifully. Some temporary states are not directly visible to human eyes in the same way. A one-second exposure makes a light trail that never existed as a stationary luminous line. Photography therefore does not only select temporary states from the world. Exposure parameters can build a new representation of duration.

Burst Mode Reveals the Neighbours the Hero Frame Excludes

This does not weaken photography. It shows craft. The photographer recognised which fraction carried the intended information.

Photography Laboratory 1: One Second, Ten Faces

With a willing participant, use burst mode during ordinary conversation. Review the sequence and identify how many different emotional labels could plausibly be attached to individual frames. Then watch the moment as continuous video if available.

From one safe fixed position, photograph the same public space every thirty seconds for ten minutes. Compare occupancy and overlap. Decide which single image would most exaggerate busyness and which would most exaggerate emptiness.
