Art reproduction is the reason most people can know artworks they have never physically encountered.

A painting can appear in a textbook. A sculpture can circulate as photographs. A performance can survive as video. A print can exist in an edition. A digital scan can make a fragile manuscript globally accessible.

But reproduction is never simple duplication. Every reproductive process keeps some information, changes some information and loses some information.
