Inventory age can reveal failure earlier than total tonnage. A tidy stockpile may be commercially stranded for months. Monitoring both volume and residence time gives the operator a reason to slow intake before a market or equipment problem becomes a safety problem.
Surge space is productive infrastructure. A facility that works only when fire lanes, drainage margins, quarantine or clean zones become overflow storage does not genuinely fit its parcel. Stock and intake limits should be established before the difficult day arrives.

A credible closure sequence stops intake early, keeps pollution controls operating, moves the highest-risk inventory first, preserves records and leaves the parcel suitable for its next use. The plan should not assume positive commodity value will pay for cleanup.

Are future microplastic restrictions reflected in process flexibility? Does closure clear loose granules and polymer-rich residues while containment remains active?
The deepest test
The deepest artificial-turf planning test is whether end-of-life design keeps the pitch from becoming an inseparable composite. The recovery hub succeeds when infill is captured before it escapes, layers remain identifiable, water and dust controls retain microplastics, reusable components stay intact, polymer feedstocks meet real specifications, and a town can replace playing surfaces without transferring the environmental cost to drains, warehouses or distant disposal sites.
