Top 100 PSLE Vocabulary List resources should include the small words and phrases that make larger ideas connect. Transition Words Are Logic, Not Decoration

A transition is a promise. When a sentence begins with however, the writer promises contrast. When it begins with consequently, the writer promises a result caused by what came before. When it begins with similarly, the writer promises an important likeness. Readers use these promises to predict where the text is going.

This is why students should stop collecting connectors only as stylistic variety. Replacing but with nevertheless is not an upgrade unless the meaning and register fit. Replacing then with therefore can actually create a false cause-and-effect relationship. Accuracy comes before variety.
