PSLE Mathematics tuition for Whampoa families should fit the preparation target and the child’s usable energy. A weekday can help repair a repeated school-revision error. A weekend can offer a rested session for selected practice, careful correction and a later independent retry.
Confirm the examination year and whether your child takes Standard or Foundation Mathematics. The paper-format details here concern Standard Mathematics, subject code 0008, for examination from 2026. Foundation Mathematics uses its own specification.
Compare the whole preparation week, including travel, other subjects, corrections and rest. A useful weekday or weekend plan leaves the Whampoa family able to sustain it and the pupil able to recognise a relationship in changed wording.

SEAB’s Standard Mathematics specification from 2026 gives Paper 1 50 marks and 70 minutes, without calculators. Paper 2 has 50 marks and 80 minutes, with calculators allowed.
Use the official document for the child’s examination year and level. Older questions can support practice, but differences should be identified before an older paper becomes an exact timed rehearsal.
Inspect the first uncertain decision in recent work. A pupil who adds an inflow and an outflow needs help identifying the net change, rather than more division practice alone.
A weekday lesson can help when school revision repeatedly exposes confusion about a quantity entering and another leaving.
The tutor can describe one minute of change before calculating the duration. This gives the net rate a meaning instead of turning subtraction into a shortcut.
Choose a day with sufficient energy for explanation. Keep home follow-up focused on what happens in the same interval rather than adding another full paper to a demanding evening.

A rested weekend can provide room to represent the starting quantity, the required final quantity and the change each minute.
Discuss uncertain correct answers as well as wrong ones. Ask whether the pupil selected the amount still needed and the net rate.
Reserve a later independent retry with changed numbers. The aim is to select the model after the immediate demonstration has faded.

A tank contains 18 litres of water and needs to reach 90 litres. Water enters at 8 litres per minute and drains away at 2 litres per minute simultaneously. Both rates are constant. How long does the level take to reach 90 litres?
Each minute, eight litres enter while two leave. The net increase is 8 − 2 = 6 litres per minute.
The required increase is 90 − 18 = 72 litres. Time = 72 ÷ 6 = 12 minutes.
Check the full balance: 18 + 8 × 12 − 2 × 12 = 18 + 96 − 24 = 90 litres.
Dividing 90 by six ignores the water already present. Adding the rates treats the drain as if it were another inlet.
Try a changed target of 78 litres with the same starting amount and rates. The required increase is 60 litres, so the time is ten minutes.
The example assumes the inlet and drain operate at the stated rates throughout, with sufficient tank capacity and no other loss. If a question changes those conditions, the model must change.
Ask the child to explain the amount needed and the change per minute before calculating.

A small group of three can compare a per-minute table with a water-balance equation written in words and numbers. Each pupil should identify why the rates are subtracted.
The tutor should then give fresh independent questions. Following a peer’s method can help, but should lead towards naming the net change alone.
Ask for feedback on interpretation, units and checking. Match the group to Standard or Foundation level and present learning needs.

Record a few recurring errors and later independent checks. Shift attention when the relationship becomes secure across different questions.
A brief home check can ask what happens if the inflow and outflow are equal. The amount then stays constant, so a higher target cannot be reached under those unchanged conditions.
Review Maths alongside other PSLE subjects and recovery time. A useful plan includes time to understand corrections, not only accumulate attempts.
