For Lavender parents comparing weekday and weekend PSLE English tuition, a sample is not automatically a personal assignment. Practical reading checks whether a message illustrates a format or gives the reader their actual arrangements.
A pupil may notice a familiar day or time but miss a label such as sample. A useful lesson follows the message’s directions to the relevant information.
Choose a window that supports reading the full instruction. The invented notice below is teaching material and does not announce a real programme.

Identify the role of the information
Ask whether the document is an example, a general announcement or a personal confirmation.
A sample may show how information will appear without assigning its contents to every reader.
Use the labels and instructions supplied. Do not assume that all tables or screenshots have the same role.
An invented example: a sample session card
This invented notice says, ‘The sample session card below shows Monday at 3 pm. Your assigned day and time will be stated in your confirmation email.’
Monday at 3 pm belongs to the sample. The reader’s actual assignment should be checked in the confirmation email.
The notice does not establish that the reader has been assigned Monday. It also supplies no actual email contents.
Answer without filling the missing assignment
If asked where the reader should check their assigned session, identify the confirmation email.
If asked for that reader’s actual day, explain that the supplied notice does not give it.
Use a new message that explicitly confirms a day. The pupil should use confirmed information when it is supplied rather than keep treating everything as a sample.
When weekday practical reading may fit
A weekday lesson can revisit a recent answer while the child remembers which visible detail they selected.
Check concentration for reading the label as well as the day and time. A rushed pupil may copy the most prominent information.
Keep follow-up short: identify the example and the source of actual arrangements in a fresh fictional message.
When weekend practical reading may fit
A weekend lesson may provide time to compare sample information with a personal confirmation.
Use the interval to explain the document’s role rather than memorise Monday or 3 pm.
Return to unfamiliar work during the week. Can the pupil identify what applies to the recipient without an adult highlighting the instruction?
How three-pax reading checks each pupil
In a three-pax lesson, each pupil can identify the relevant information source before the group discusses it.
The tutor can compare a copied sample detail with an answer that follows the stated direction.
Finish with separate new notices. Every pupil should demonstrate that the method follows the supplied message.
Confirm teaching fit and arrangements
Ask whether the tutor sees a missed label, an assumed personal assignment or difficulty following a cross-reference.
Confirm current venue, timing, group arrangements and course suitability directly. Lavender identifies the parent audience, not a verified classroom or available slot.
For examination-year requirements, consult the school and the official SEAB website. The invented notice is not an official assessment item.
Review what applies to the reader
Ask which information is illustrative and which source supplies the recipient’s actual details.
Notice fewer assumed bookings and more answers tied to the instructions. These are useful improvements without guaranteeing a result.
Choose the day that supports careful practical reading and a manageable later check.
