Tuition in Meizhou should preserve the learning that came before today’s homework. A child might correctly calculate percentages in one chapter but fail to recognise proportional reasoning in the next. Another may know Chinese or English vocabulary yet struggle to justify a reading inference. More pages will only help if they repair the missing relationship.
Meizhou families also need to understand a major admissions transition: the 2026 examination remains out of 850 points, while the reformed 840-point examination first applies in 2029 to pupils entering Year 7 in autumn 2026. This guide explains the two systems and what thoughtful Mathematics, English, Chinese and Science teaching actually looks like. It uses eduKate Singapore’s diagnosis-first and premium three-student tutorial approach as an educational reference; it does not claim any eduKate tuition centre or locally bookable class in Meizhou.

Meizhou’s 2026 examination: the existing 850-point score
For Meizhou’s 2026 junior-secondary graduating cohort, the examination maximum remains 850 points. Chinese, Mathematics and English contribute 120 each, including 30 listening-and-speaking points within English. Physics contributes 100, including 10 practical-operation points. Chemistry contributes 80 including 8 practical, History 80, Morality and Rule of Law 60, Geography and Biology 40 each, and Physical Education and Health 90.
Biology’s counted result includes four practical-operation points under the relevant converted subject structure. The overall score incorporates some assessments completed earlier in junior-secondary schooling, so parents must know the student’s actual school year and recorded subject results.
| 2026 Meizhou subject | Counted maximum | What teaching should strengthen |
|---|---|---|
| Chinese / Mathematics / English | 120 each, English includes 30 listening/speaking | Comprehension, modelling, spoken communication |
| Physics | 100, including 10 practical points | Scientific models, measurement and controlled experiments |
| Chemistry / History | 80 each; Chemistry includes 8 practical | Evidence, reactions and historical explanation |
| Morality and Rule of Law | 60 | Apply concepts and build supported answers |
| Geography / Biology | 40 each; Biology includes 4 practical | Earlier school knowledge and systems thinking |
| Physical Education and Health | 90 | Safe, school-guided long-term participation |
| Maximum 2026 total | 850 | Do not apply the later 840-point chart prematurely |
The June 2026 Meizhou Education Bureau subject breakdown, March registration announcement and Meizhou Daily’s July admissions briefing place this in the 2026 cycle. The main provincewide cultural examinations were held 30 June–2 July 2026.
Why Meizhou’s new 840-point rules begin in 2029
On 18 June 2026, Meizhou Education Bureau formally issued a new reform opinion, effective from 1 September 2026 but with a deliberate cohort transition. The first pupils assessed under the new score structure are those entering seventh grade in autumn 2026; their entrance exam is in 2029. The 2027 and 2028 graduating classes continue under the old scoring arrangements.
The new plan reduces the score total from 850 to 840 and counts eight subjects: Chinese 140, Mathematics 150, English 140 including 30 listening and speaking, Physics 100, Chemistry 80, History 80, Morality and Rule of Law 60, and Physical Education and Health 90. Those values sum to 840.
Geography and Biology leave the main counted-point sum for the new cohort but become grade-based assessments, alongside Information Technology and Arts. The reform describes A+, A, B and C levels and different grade expectations for various senior-secondary pathways. Parents should not confuse ‘not numerically counted’ with ‘unnecessary to study’.
| Exam dimension | 2026 graduate | 2029 graduate under the reform |
|---|---|---|
| Total admission score | 850 | 840 |
| Chinese | 120 | 140 |
| Mathematics | 120 | 150 |
| English including oral/listening | 120 | 140 |
| Physics | 100 | 100 |
| Chemistry / History | 80 each | 80 each |
| Morality and Rule of Law | 60 | 60 |
| Physical Education and Health | 90 | 90 |
| Geography / Biology | 40 each | Grade-based, not added to the 840 |
The cohort timeline and new weights are explained in Meizhou Daily’s 19 June 2026 article quoting the Education Bureau and Southern Daily’s detailed policy explanation. Families need the child’s cohort written beside any plan or worksheet pack. An advertisement that calls 840 ‘the 2026 maximum’ would be wrong.
School eligibility is not something a tutor can sell
The 2026 policy discussion and 2029 reform also address localised senior-secondary admissions. From 2027, certain pilot counties—including Jiaoling, Pingyuan and Fengshun—begin a more localised school recruitment arrangement; wider locality-based admission reforms are scheduled for 2029.
Public senior-secondary school independent admissions are capped and regulated, and the newer policy removes specified local bonus-point practices from 2027. Applicant conditions and authorised school places are administered through the education system. A tutoring company has no power to guarantee a seat or change a household-registration requirement.
Families in Meijiang, Meixian, Xingning, Wuhua, Dabu, Fengshun, Jiaoling and Pingyuan should check the latest school and district notice for the child’s intended route. A tutor can strengthen subject learning, but should never claim that paying for extra classes ensures school admission.
An honest learning diagnosis looks below the overall mark
A learner might earn 75% on a Mathematics test while being completely secure in algebraic manipulation but weak at modelling word problems. Another might model problems correctly but make repeat errors with signed numbers. The overall mark cannot distinguish them. A helpful first session asks the pupil to explain a genuine incorrect answer and then attempts a simpler and a changed problem.
A precise diagnosis might be: ‘Can find three quarters of a known whole, but cannot work backwards from three quarters to the original whole.’ That tells the tutor where to begin. ‘Needs more Maths’ is not an actionable explanation.
| What the parent sees | Possible gap | Useful next lesson |
|---|---|---|
| Correct only when the topic is named | Dependent on method cues | Mix question types and remove headings |
| Poor algebra after strong arithmetic | Whole–part or equivalence gap | Explain with a bar model, then notation |
| Good English vocabulary, weak comprehension | Inference-to-evidence connection | Identify and justify a relevant sentence |
| Science terms memorised, unfamiliar experiments weak | Experimental design and causation | Control variables and interpret results |
| Works well after tutoring, struggles days later | Retention and retrieval | Spaced independent return questions |
Mathematics tuition: from a tea-harvest example to algebra
Meizhou’s Hakka and agricultural setting offers a simple fictional teaching example. Three equal baskets of harvested produce, together with a two-kilogram empty crate, have a total mass of 26 kilograms. Each basket therefore represents 8 kilograms of produce: subtract the two-kilogram crate, then divide 24 by three.
A learner can draw three equal boxes and one fixed box before writing 3x + 2 = 26. If the empty crate’s mass applies to each basket instead of the entire group, the model becomes 3(x + 2) = 26. The changed story tests whether the child knows what x and the two represent.
Fractions have to remain meaningful
Three quarters of 48 is 36. But if 36 represents three quarters, what is the whole? Each quarter is 12; four make 48. A secondary student writes 3x/4 = 36. The earlier bar-model reasoning is the foundation of the later algebraic fraction, not an unrelated trick.
A child who memorised only the forward operation may struggle when algebra enters. The tutor should repair the whole–part structure before adding more complicated symbols.
Why explanations matter more than speed
Ask a pupil to explain why subtracting two kilograms was appropriate and why dividing by three follows. Next ask what would change if there were four baskets. If the child adapts the relationship, the learning is transferable. If the pupil only memorised the sequence, more examples may be required—but they should be deliberately varied.
Checking is a distinct skill
Units, plausible size, substitution and proper labelling can prevent avoidable errors. A pupil whose calculation is correct but whose equation describes the wrong situation needs modelling instruction; a pupil with the right model but an arithmetic slip needs a focused checking habit.
Chinese and English: the language of evidence and explanation
Meizhou’s Hakka cultural setting means some students may use Hakka or other languages at home, alongside the school’s formal instructional language. Home multilingualism is not a learning deficit. What matters for tutoring is the learner’s actual difficulty with reading inference, academic vocabulary, listening, oral response or structured writing.
A Chinese comprehension question
Give a short passage describing a family making a difficult decision. Ask what the writer explicitly states, what is implied and which words support that inference. Invite an original answer, then test it on a changed passage. The learning is the bridge from text to evidence.
A foreign-language listening practice task
Play a short announcement saying the meeting time changes but the venue does not. Ask what changed, what stayed constant and what action the listener should take. Invite the child to retell the message and then process another unfamiliar one without a transcript. This teaches meaning, not simple recitation.
Writing starts with a purpose
One strong paragraph contains a clear claim, a relevant example and an explanation of how the example supports the claim. A long paragraph full of sophisticated vocabulary can still be weak if it never answers the question. Ask the child to revise for clarity first.
Science tutoring: what an experiment actually tells us
The 2026 Meizhou Physics, Chemistry and Biology score structure includes practical-operation contributions. But a student who follows a practised laboratory sequence may still misunderstand the principle. A tutor should ask what the experiment was designed to test, which factor was changed and what observation counts as evidence.
A fair-test question
Suppose a pupil investigates whether warmer water dissolves a fixed quantity of sugar more quickly. The water amount, sugar size and type, stirring and container should be made comparable while temperature is varied. If two conditions change together, it becomes harder to say which caused the result.
The tutor can ask for a small table showing measurements and a conclusion that distinguishes observations from inferences. This is valuable reasoning even when the actual school practical is supervised separately.
Interpret graphs before applying formulas
A distance–time graph, temperature graph and growth chart may all slope upward but tell different scientific stories. The pupil should read axes, units and context before calculating. An answer is better when the child can explain what the number actually represents.
Geography and Biology retain educational value even as they move into grades in the later reform. They support systems thinking, scientific observation and understanding of living environments. ‘Grade-based’ is not ‘concept-free’.
What eduKate’s immutable premium three-pupil model contributes
The canonical Secondary 1 Mathematics Tutor Clementi | Small Groups Tutorials describes premium groups of three pupils near Sixth Avenue MRT in Singapore. It is kept as a stable teaching design: close attention, diagnosis, explanation and independent transfer. It does not represent an eduKate class in Meizhou.
Imagine three pupils answering the basket-and-crate problem. One subtracts the crate mass correctly but divides by four instead of three. Another divides first and then subtracts two. A third gets eight but cannot explain what x stands for. A tutor can observe those distinct errors, make the relationship visible and then give a different context for independent practice.
Three pupils is not a guarantee of better grades. The group must offer meaningful attention and peer explanation while allowing every learner to attempt unfamiliar work without prompts. A child learning effectively with school teaching or home study may not need extra paid lessons.
The learning loop should reduce reliance on tuition
| Stage | Student action | Evidence of learning |
|---|---|---|
| Retrieve | Recall something taught earlier without notes | The prerequisite survives time |
| Diagnose | Explain a marked mistake | The cause becomes specific |
| Connect | Use diagram, words and equation | Meaning is clear |
| Practise | Solve bounded variations with fading hints | The recurring error changes |
| Transfer | Choose a method on an unfamiliar task | Student works independently |
| Return | Revisit after several days | Understanding remains available |
Four weeks of better decisions for Meizhou parents
| Week | Family task | What to look for |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Collect actual school errors and name the root gap | A precise starting point |
| 2 | Repair the prerequisite with simple diagrams and explanations | Independent work on a familiar task |
| 3 | Change problem wording and mix older topics | Method selection without cues |
| 4 | Retest after a delay and review time costs | Stable knowledge and a sensible next decision |
School travel and family time differ across Meijiang, Meixian, Xingning, Wuhua and the surrounding counties. Count travel, additional assignments, meals and sleep when considering a ninety-minute class. Good tutoring should make schoolwork more manageable, not simply create a crowded timetable.
Choose repair for a learner whose foundations block new work, maintenance for inconsistent recall, or progress through deeper reasoning for a confident learner. If the original obstacle has been resolved, reducing extra classes can be appropriate.
Mainland academic tutoring must also meet the law
China’s Double Reduction framework regulates commercial subject-based tutoring for compulsory-education children. A course called homework coaching, enrichment or premium 3-pax tuition does not automatically become lawful. Student age, provider status, content, mode and timetable may matter.
Before paying for a Meizhou tutoring arrangement, check current national, Guangdong and city requirements, lawful provider standing, qualifications, fees, refunds and student safety. School after-class support and commercial tutoring are different activities. The Ministry of Education’s Double Reduction policy offers national context but cannot authorise a specific provider.
Frequently asked Meizhou tuition questions
Was the 2026 Meizhou exam 850 or 840?
The 2026 graduating cohort sat the 850-point system. The 840-point reform applies first to pupils entering seventh grade in autumn 2026, who sit the reformed examination in 2029. The 2027 and 2028 graduates retain the preceding scoring system.
Does the 2029 reform make Mathematics worth 150?
Yes, under the published 2029 framework. Chinese and English become 140 each, Mathematics 150 and the eight counted subjects total 840.
Can Geography and Biology be abandoned after they become grade-based?
No. The later reform introduces grade requirements for those subjects and retains their curricular importance. They may also affect eligibility for specific senior-secondary school categories.
Does tuition guarantee a place in a Meizhou high school?
No. Admission depends on official school plans, applicant eligibility, scores or grades, and ranked preferences. A tutor can teach, not override school administration.
Does eduKate have a Meizhou tuition branch?
No local eduKate tuition centre, commercial class or bookable service is claimed. The immutable premium 3-pupil reference is the Singapore Clementi programme.

Editorial scope, October 2026: The 850-point maximum applies to the 2026 graduate, while the 840-point plan is for the specified 2029 cohort. Future instructions and lawful tuition eligibility should be confirmed through education authorities. The basket example is fictional.
Less noise. More structure. Better learning continuity. A useful Meizhou tutorial leaves a student with a reasoned method that still works when the words, symbols and question context change.
