Did you know? The year on a syllabus matters as much as the subject name. For a student preparing for the 2027 Singapore–Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate (SEC), start with the 2027 document for the correct subject and level.
G1 identifies the subject level. SEAB publishes separate syllabus lists for school candidates and private candidates, so choosing the matching list is a useful first step.
This guide shows you how to identify the right file, check a study resource and turn the syllabus into a usable learning folder.

SECTION 1 OF 5
1. Understand where G1 fits in the SEC
SEAB states that the SEC begins in 2027, combining the previous N(T), N(A) and O-Level certification under one examination framework. Students take papers at their respective subject levels, and the certificate records their subjects and levels. Read the official SEC overview.
For school candidates, registration is handled through the school. Your child’s school can confirm the subjects and levels being entered.
If your child is in an earlier secondary-school year, use the school’s current teaching plan for everyday learning and check the syllabus for their eventual examination year when available. The 2027 list specifically serves the 2027 examination.
SECTION 2 OF 5
2. Find the correct syllabus in four checks
- Year: confirm the examination year.
- Candidate type: choose school candidate or private candidate.
- Subject and level: match the complete subject title and G1.
- Code: compare the code on the list with the downloaded document.
Begin at SEAB’s 2027 G1 syllabus list for school candidates. Private candidates should use the separate 2027 G1 private-candidate list. The offerings differ, so use the list that matches the registration route.
| 2027 G1 subject | 2027 code |
|---|---|
| English Language | K100 |
| Mathematics | K110 |
| Chinese Language | K120 |
| Malay Language | K121 |
| Tamil Language | K122 |
| Science | K123 |
Save the document with a useful filename, such as “2027 G1 Mathematics K110”. Add the download date to your folder notes so you can check for a later revision.

SECTION 3 OF 5
3. Check a resource before using it
A cover title is a starting clue. Open the resource and compare its topics, question styles and stated assessment information with the current syllabus and the school’s instructions.
SEAB’s 2027 list shows earlier subject codes for reference. That can help you identify an older resource, while the current syllabus remains the guide to what applies in 2027.
| Resource | Practical check |
|---|---|
| School textbook or workbook | Match the school’s current booklist and subject level. |
| Older practice paper | Ask which questions still match the current syllabus. |
| Online worksheet | Check its topic, instructions and solution method. |
| Official specimen paper, where available | Read it with the corresponding syllabus and marking information provided. |
For example, an older percentage question may still be useful for practising a calculation. Use it for that learning purpose after checking the topic with the teacher. Confirm any claims about paper structure, duration or weighting against the current official document.
This makes each resource’s role clear: explanation, focused practice, revision or examination familiarisation.

SECTION 4 OF 5
4. Build a study folder you can actually use
Create four simple sections: syllabus, current school topics, practice, and questions for the teacher. Place the official document in the first section, then use the teacher’s sequence to organise the current work.
Choose one syllabus topic your class has already begun. Write it at the top of a page. Under it, add one explanation you can give, one task you have completed and one question you would like answered.
Example learning note: Topic: percentages. I can explain how to find 15% of an amount. My completed example is in the practice section. My next question is how to recognise when a problem asks for the original amount.
This note is an optional study aid. The school decides its lesson sequence and assessment arrangements. Keep updating the folder as new teaching and feedback arrive.

SECTION 5 OF 5
5. Connect the syllabus with the school calendar
SEAB’s SEC overview places English Language and Mother Tongue written examinations in September, other written subjects in October–November, and non-written components before the written examinations. Use the official detailed timetable and school notices for exact dates.
Record the dates that apply to your own subjects. Add school practice sessions, project milestones and teacher consultations when the school confirms them. A visible calendar helps you connect the next small task to the longer preparation period.
Does every student taking a G1 subject sit the SEC in 2027?
The examination year depends on the student’s cohort and school programme. Check your child’s expected examination year with the school.
Where should I start today?
Confirm the year, subject, level and candidate type. Download the matching syllabus, then ask the teacher which section connects to the current lesson.
