EDUKATE SINGAPORE · PG2 QUICK GUIDE
Find the next useful step
Find a relevant PG2 student’s syllabus document by checking subject, level, stage and applicable cohort, then use it alongside school teaching guidance.

Did you know? Two documents can both say Mathematics and still answer different questions. One may describe classroom learning; another may describe examination requirements. Knowing which document you have makes it much easier to use the information well.
Checked 25 October 2026. Examples are illustrative; follow current school instructions for individual arrangements.
SECTION 1 OF 5
Begin with the subject rather than the Posting Group
PG2 is Posting Group 2, not the name of one syllabus covering every subject. Under Full Subject-Based Banding, individual subjects have confirmed levels. Begin with the child’s actual subject, level and stage of study.
MOE’s secondary syllabus directory provides subject documents. Use the official directory and read the document’s own title and applicability information instead of relying only on a search-result heading.
For a question about this week’s lessons, the teacher’s current sequence remains essential. A national document describes the wider programme; it need not tell you what the school will teach next Tuesday.
SECTION 2 OF 5
Check four identity details
Record the subject, level or levels, stage of study and the year or cohort information stated in the document. Some documents cover more than one level, so read the relevant sections carefully.
Then identify the document’s purpose. A teaching-and-learning syllabus and an examination syllabus should be used for the questions each actually addresses. Do not assume their section headings or topic order serve the same function.
If the document’s applicability is unclear, ask the teacher to confirm the appropriate version. An old file saved on a family device may remain readable without being the correct reference for the current cohort.
| Document check | Question |
|---|---|
| Subject and level | Does it match the confirmed arrangement? |
| Stage | Lower secondary, upper secondary or examination? |
| Applicability | Which year or cohort is stated? |
| Purpose | Learning scope or examination requirements? |
SECTION 3 OF 5
A worked search and checking process
Imagine a parent wants to understand the scope of a lower-secondary Mathematics topic. The parent opens MOE’s syllabus directory, selects the relevant Mathematics document and checks the title page and stated coverage.
The parent searches within the document for the topic, then reads the surrounding outcome and notes. If the document combines levels, they check how it distinguishes the relevant content.
The parent then asks the teacher: “Which parts of this topic are being taught now, and what should my child be able to do at this point?” The document provides context while the teacher supplies the current classroom focus.
SECTION 4 OF 5
Turn an outcome into a useful learning question
Suppose a learning statement concerns interpreting a graph. Ask what the student must identify: axes, units, scale, values or a relationship. A worksheet or teacher example can make that requirement concrete.
Select a suitable task and let the child explain the reading. If the learner can locate a point but cannot interpret its meaning, the next teaching step differs from practising plotting alone.
This is a suggested way to use a learning statement, not a quotation from a particular syllabus. Exact scope and expectations should come from the relevant document and teacher guidance.
SECTION 5 OF 5
Quick answers about using syllabuses
Should a parent teach the whole syllabus from the document? Use it to understand the programme and ask better questions. It does not replace lessons, teaching resources or school sequencing.
Does the publication date alone identify the correct version? Read all stated applicability information, including cohort or examination year where relevant. Ask when uncertain.
What should we do today? Save the official source link, record the document identity and choose one current outcome to discuss with the teacher. A relevant page is more useful than a large collection of unlabelled PDFs.
