What is Full Subject Based Banding | FullSBB SEC 2027 Subject Codes: G1, G2, G3 Syllabus Directory for Parents

Quick answer: SEC 2027 examinations use subject-specific K-codes at G1, G2 and G3. For example, English Language is K100 (G1), K200 (G2) and K300 (G3); Mathematics is K110/K210/K310; Additional Mathematics is K232 at G2 and K341 at G3. The code determines which official syllabus and exam scheme a student should use. A national listing does not guarantee that every school offers the subject.

Below is a practical parent directory of the 2027 school-candidate SEC subject codes, including core subjects, Humanities, languages, elective subjects and restricted applied subjects. Check any individual subject in SEAB’s live directory before purchase or examination planning.

Independent eduKate Singapore reference · Official SEAB 2027 subject lists checked 7 November 2026 · Restricted subjects are not universal school offers.

The five-minute answer: what does a SEC subject code tell you?

Every 2027 SEC subject has a specified syllabus code and level. The new Singapore–Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate (SEC) identifies the individual subject and whether it is taken at G1, G2 or G3. A code such as K100 means G1 English Language; K200 means G2 English Language; and K300 means G3 English Language. The three are not identical papers.

Full Subject-Based Banding allows students with different academic strengths to take a mixture of levels where schools offer them and the student meets the appropriate criteria. The subject code—not the pupil’s initial Posting Group—helps parents identify which official syllabus and examination scheme to read. School candidates register through their schools; families should not invent or submit their own code selections independently.

Start with SEAB’s official 2027 School Candidate syllabus selector, then open the G1, G2 or G3 directory and choose the exact named course.

G1 SEC 2027 subject codes: the parent reference table

The G1 school-candidate directory includes mainstream academic, elective and local language subjects, plus specialised MOE–ITE Applied Subjects. These are nationally listed examination entries; a school may not offer every entry. The three MOE–ITE Applied Subjects are restricted to schools approved to offer them.

Use the official G1 directory for syllabus documents, current examination formats and any specimen papers. A listed code is not a guarantee that an individual candidate can register for it at any school. Particular applied-subject arrangements can have cohort-specific transitions.

G2 SEC 2027 subject codes: the parent reference table

G2 includes English, Mathematics, Mother Tongue, combined Sciences, Humanities, additional languages and several electives. Notice that Additional Mathematics K232 and Computing K237 are present. Families should not assume that these subjects can only exist at G3 simply because the older examination streams were organised differently.

The G2 directory separates standalone Geography, History and Literature from combined Humanities entries pairing Social Studies with another discipline. Do not use a combined Humanities code when the school has registered a standalone subject. The official G2 list is the authority for the actual subject title.

G3 SEC 2027 core subjects, humanities and mathematics

G3 includes the core national examination subjects, combined and separate Sciences, Humanities and additional academic electives. The list below shows the G3 subjects from English Language through Additional Mathematics in a convenient group. The original directory uses its own order and indicates which papers contain electronic examination components.

G3 Additional Mathematics is K341; G2 A-Math is K232. Combined Science (Physics, Chemistry) is K326 at G3, whereas separate Physics and Chemistry are K323 and K324. These are different subjects. Check the school’s exact offering and the relevant syllabus before selecting assessment books.

G3 SEC 2027 electives, Mother Tongue and specialist subjects

These further G3 entries include business, creative subjects, language courses and restricted applied subjects. A school may offer none or only some of the specialist subjects. The subject title and code should always be taken together.

SEAB’s G3 page states that Economics and Business are available only through schools approved to offer them. Biotechnology and Design Studies also require approved schools and have special registration or fee provisions. A parent should not treat an approved-school subject as a universal elective.

Check the 2027 G3 school-candidate directory for the complete authoritative list and any later updates.

Why a national code does not guarantee a school offers the subject

Secondary schools need teachers, equipment, timetable space and a viable subject combination. Some national examination entries are limited to approved institutions, while others may be offered by a larger number of schools but still not appear in every year group’s combination sheet.

Imagine a Secondary 2 student who wants to take G3 Computing because the national directory shows K349. That code establishes the published SEC examination, not an enrolment entitlement. If the school does not teach the subject, the student cannot simply enter it as part of their ordinary school combination. They must seek accurate school guidance about available options.

The same principle applies to Higher Art, Electronics, specialised languages and combined Humanities subjects. Ask for the school’s current subject-offer notice, not an online list detached from the actual school.

How to read the older 2026 reference code column

SEAB’s directories also display a subject code for reference (2026 and earlier). That column helps readers relate the SEC subject to a historical N- or O-Level syllabus where an earlier counterpart exists. It does not mean the former examination will continue unchanged as a separate qualification in 2027.

For example, G3 English K300 corresponds to earlier reference code 1184. G2 English K200 is paired with 1190 and G1 English K100 with 1195. The new K code should guide 2027 course preparation and examination registration.

For newly introduced subjects such as G1/G2 Computing, the directory may show N.A. in the old-code column. That is a useful warning against inventing an older equivalent. A subject can be new, refined or revised; read the full official syllabus and its specimen-paper guidance.

What is the difference between school and private candidate subject lists?

SEAB provides separate syllabus directories for school candidates and private candidates. A school candidate is registered through the school. Private candidates register through SEAB’s Candidate Portal subject to requirements including age and available examination entries; SEAB says further SEC private-candidate registration details will be published in 2027.

Not every school-candidate examination entry is necessarily available to a private candidate on the same basis. Certain coursework, practical tasks, facilities or applied subjects need school arrangements. Do not buy a private-candidate course simply because it appears on a school-candidate page.

The private-candidate selector provides the correct comparison. Students planning to retake a particular subject later should verify the actual future examination-year eligibility rather than rely on a general 2027 table.

Why G1 Humanities is not shown beside the G2/G3 combinations

The national G1 SEC directory does not list an equivalent G1 examination entry for combined Social Studies with Geography or History. This does not mean a lower-secondary pupil taking G1 academic subjects is denied Humanities learning.

School-based Humanities learning, common curriculum subjects and national examinable subjects are different categories. A pupil may encounter real-world issues, inquiry, citizenship and historical or geographical ideas through school programmes even when there is no separate G1 national Humanities examination code.

At G2 and G3, Social Studies appears as part of specific combined Humanities entries. The correct code depends on whether it is paired with Geography, History or a Literature subject. Avoid naming a nonexistent G1 code to make the tables appear symmetrical.

What to do when the school mentions e-Examinations

Some SEC papers or components use an electronic format. SEAB identifies designated subjects or papers on its syllabus directory and provides separate e-Examination resources. This is an examination delivery condition, not another academic subject level.

Students may need to type, select responses or complete a computer-based component according to the exact subject. An English e-oral component, for example, is not the same experience as a written Mathematics paper. The school’s trial or familiarisation activities can help a student understand the interface.

Do not assume that every SEC paper is on a computer simply because the child uses a Personal Learning Device at school. The individual syllabus specifies the assessment scheme, and the national timetable will show the actual examination components.

How mixed G levels appear on one SEC certificate

SEAB states that the SEC certificate will show the subjects and levels taken by a candidate. A student can have G3 English and G2 Mathematics recorded alongside another subject at G1 or G2. One common qualification format does not transform the courses into identical syllabuses.

Each level has a different grading structure: G1 uses A through E, G2 uses 1 through 6, and G3 uses A1, A2, B3, B4, C5, C6, D7, E8 and 9. Comparing a G2 grade of 2 with a G3 B4 requires knowing the context. There are specific grade mappings for authorised post-secondary aggregate calculations, not a universal statement that the underlying courses are the same.

For school planning, keep a record of subject title, level, code and current grade. The level and code will remain important when checking later diploma or pre-university eligibility.

A worked case: G3 English, G2 Maths and G3 Combined Science

Imagine a hypothetical student whose school offers G3 English Language K300, G2 Mathematics K210 and G3 Science (Physics, Chemistry) K326. The correct syllabus set contains three different codes and two different G levels. None of those facts is altered by the student having entered the school in one Posting Group.

The family should ask the teacher where each syllabus currently sits, which term’s topics are being learned, and whether upcoming assessments are school WAs or national examination components. The child may need a mathematical bridge for percentages and graphs but be fluent in scientific explanation.

It would be a waste to purchase a G3 Mathematics book simply because G3 Science appears on the timetable. Full SBB is built around precisely this subject-specific distinction.

A second case: choosing between Computing and POA

Another Secondary 2 pupil is interested in technical work and business decisions. The parent sees G2 Computing K237 and G2 Principles of Accounts K233 on the national list and assumes both can automatically fit alongside the school’s existing core subjects.

First check the school subject-combination sheet. There may be timetable constraints, limits on certain elective pairings or readiness criteria. Next inspect what the subjects actually teach. Computing involves algorithms and problem-solving; POA involves accurate financial recording and interpretation. Both require sustained work, but the intellectual demands are different.

Ask the pupil to attempt a simple unfamiliar task in each area and explain their reasoning. The subject decision should reflect a genuine learning opportunity, not the appeal of a code printed on a webpage.

How to use official 2027 specimen papers

SEAB links specimen papers for some newly introduced or revised syllabuses. Not all content and copyright-protected images may be available in free online specimens; the directory explains that missing material can be described or linked and that complete print specimens may be purchased where offered.

Start with the correct syllabus and note its paper structure, assessment objectives and permitted materials. Then use a specimen question to diagnose how the student thinks. A perfect memorised answer to a sample task is not equivalent to readiness for unseen questions.

When an older N- or O-Level paper overlaps with the new syllabus, it may still help with a specific topic, but the current syllabus should always control what is required and how the examination is structured.

The parent checklist before purchasing books or tuition

  1. Confirm the child’s current academic year and school.
  2. Copy the actual subject name, level and 2027 SEC code from the school offer.
  3. Open the matching SEAB school-candidate syllabus.
  4. Identify whether the subject is a school-based course or nationally examined entry.
  5. Check special restrictions or approved-school conditions.
  6. Read the booklist and assessment instructions for the actual school.
  7. Inspect one recent piece of independent work for a clear learning gap.
  8. Only then select the textbook, practice resource or additional help.

The sequence prevents a family from buying the wrong level’s materials and protects the student from being told they have “failed a G3 subject” when they were never taking that subject at G3.

Common questions about SEC subject codes

Is K100 the same as K300?

No. Both are English Language, but K100 is G1 and K300 is G3.

Does every school teach G1, G2 and G3 Computing?

No. The national examination codes exist, but school offers are specific.

Is G2 Additional Mathematics a real SEC subject?

Yes. The 2027 code is K232; G3 Additional Mathematics is K341.

Are pure Science and combined Science identical?

No. Separate Physics, Chemistry and Biology have distinct G3 codes from the combined Science entries.

Can a private candidate choose every school-candidate code?

No. Verify the separate private-candidate list and eligibility.

Do all subject titles have a G1, G2 and G3 counterpart?

No. For instance, the G1 directory does not list the same examined Humanities combinations as G2 and G3.

Does the code tell me the student’s school grade?

No. The code identifies a subject and level, not the mark earned in the examination.
