If you cannot obtain Singpass, contact your child’s school to arrange an alternative way to receive school notices. The official Parents Gateway FAQ directs parents in this situation to the school and says schools can communicate through another channel such as email. Ask how the school will send messages and how you should reply when it needs a form, consent or a confirmation.
A communication plan is particularly useful if one parent lives overseas or your child has just enrolled. Decide which adult will check messages, how often they will check and who handles anything time-sensitive. If you can sign in but cannot see your child, tell the school that you have an account and describe the missing school record. That is a different problem from being unable to obtain Singpass.
- Tell the school whether you lack Singpass, cannot sign in or cannot see your child.
- Confirm which address or number the school will use.
- Ask how to return consent forms and acknowledge urgent messages.
- Give each caregiver a clear role and use their own authorised access.
- Confirm the arrangement with a real school notice before a deadline arrives.
Identify the access problem first
You cannot obtain Singpass
Contact the school’s official office and ask for its communication arrangement for a parent without Singpass. Give the child’s school level and the best contact method. The school can tell you what information it needs to confirm the relationship and update its records. Ask how you can receive both routine notices and messages that need action on the same day.
If you are abroad, give the school a time window in Singapore time when you can take a call. Check whether the school needs a local contact for practical matters such as collection. Ask which tasks that person is authorised to handle. A local contact, a legal guardian and the parent responsible for consent may have different roles.
You can sign in but cannot see your child
Check whether you are using your own account and whether the school has completed enrolment. Tell the school what you can see and when your child started. Ask it to check the relevant parent and student records and give you a temporary way to receive any notices due soon.
If another caregiver can already see the child, ask the school how your own access should be handled. The official Parents Gateway guidance directs parents to the school for changes involving custody, guardians and caregivers. Use the school’s approved process and keep each adult’s credentials private.

Set up a two-way communication plan
Receiving a message is one task. Returning a form, giving consent or confirming an absence is another. Ask the school how to complete each kind of response through the alternative channel. If a notice includes a deadline, copy it to your calendar and write down who will act. Save the school’s acknowledgement where you can find it.
Agree on a backup for messages that arrive when the main caregiver is travelling. For example, the parent abroad may read email each morning while the authorised local caregiver calls the office about collection. Check with the school about how it wants each person to identify themselves.
Make the first enquiry specific
A parent can write: “My child has recently enrolled in [school and level]. I am unable to obtain Singpass. Could you confirm how I will receive school notices, how I should return consent forms, and whom I should contact if a reply is due while I am overseas?”
If you already have an outstanding notice, put its date and deadline near the start. Ask how to confirm the response was received. Share any student identifiers or supporting documents only through the route the school requests.

Worked example
A mother working abroad cannot use Parents Gateway. Her child’s school confirms an email channel for notices and tells her how to return forms. The child’s father can handle pickup in Singapore and has his own approved access. They keep one family calendar with the original school deadlines and the adult responsible for each task.
When the first excursion notice arrives, they read the deadline and confirm the form was received. They also ask which number the school will call if a collection time changes. The arrangement now covers both weekly reading and urgent action.
