ARTICLE 85 — Three Collapse Modes

The Three Ways Civilisations Collapse

DEFINITION LOCK
Civilisation collapse has three mechanical modes:

  1. Amplitude / KO collapse: large sudden destruction overwhelms recovery.
  2. Slow attrition collapse: loss slowly exceeds regeneration until the system can’t recover.
  3. Fast attrition / war collapse: loss violently exceeds regeneration for an extended period.
“Causes” are external forcing arrows; collapse is the rate-inequality failure underneath.

WHAT these modes mean

They describe how the regenerative lattice fails in time, not which story people tell about it.

WHY this matters

If you can classify collapse mode, you can design the right prevention: buffers for KO shocks, maintenance for slow attrition, protection for fast attrition.

HOW to recognise each mode

Amplitude/KO: sudden large loss, immediate system break
Slow attrition: long drift, hollowing pipelines, maintenance debt
Fast attrition/war: violent sustained loss, role pipelines severed

PHASE reliability

Phase 0: collapse
Phase 1: emergency stabilisation
Phase 2: stable recovery
Phase 3: drift-control preventing recurrence

FAILURE physics

Collapse is not mysterious. It is simply when losses outrun replacement long enough that essential organs (education, workforce, governance, health) cannot recover.

REGENERATION loop

Instrumentation + buffers + pipeline protection + coordinated repair → reduced collapse probability → stronger stability.

Q&A
Q: Does this ignore culture and politics?
A: No. It places them inside the cabin. The aircraft still needs thrust, structure, and control to stay airborne.

The Full Stack: Core Kernel + Supporting + Meta-Layers

Core Kernel (5-OS Loop + CDI)

  1. Mind OS Foundation — stabilises individual cognition (attention, judgement, regulation). Degradation cascades upward (unstable minds → poor Education → misaligned Governance).
  2. Education OS Capability engine (learn → skill → mastery).
  3. Governance OS Steering engine (rules → incentives → legitimacy).
  4. Production OS Reality engine (energy → infrastructure → execution).
  5. Constraint OS Limits (physics → ecology → resources).

Control: Telemetry & Diagnostics (CDI) Drift metrics (buffers, cascades), repair triggers (e.g., low legitimacy → Governance fix).

Supporting Layers (Phase 1 Expansions)
