Phase Terms
- Phase 0 — Failure: system cannot reliably produce required outcomes.
- Phase 1 — Diagnose and Recover: probe, isolate failure mode, repair, retest, stabilise.
- Phase 2 — Distinction Build: high performance construction after repair.
- Phase 3 — Drift Control: sustain Phase 2 via sensors, corridors, service intervals, micro-repairs.
Drift Terms
- Drift: slow deviation from safe operating boundaries.
- Drift corridor: acceptable tolerance band; outside triggers response.
- Drift sensors: leading indicators that warn before outcomes collapse.
- Drift dynamics: drift rate (how fast drift changes); explains “sudden” collapse.
- Service interval: scheduled maintenance cycle for Phase 3.
Diagnostics Terms (ULD)
- Probe: short test used to reveal error patterns.
- Failure mode: a specific mechanism causing loss of performance.
- Diagnosis: mapping symptom → mechanism → root cause.
- Recovery mode: predefined repair pathway matched to failure mode.
- Retest / verification: proof the repair worked and performance is stable.
Governance Terms
- Operator: person responsible for running the loop safely (consent, privacy, safeguards).
- Safeguards: rules preventing misuse, overreach, and harm.
- Scope: what eduKateOS/ULD can and cannot claim.
