Responsible uncertainty is not weakness. It is the discipline of saying exactly how much the evidence allows.

Hedging creates an evidence boundary

Each expression tells the reader how firmly the writer stands behind the proposition.
Do not hedge everything
When a definition, established fact or directly observed result is secure, excessive hedging becomes evasive. The goal is calibration, not permanent uncertainty.
Separate evidence from interpretation
“The survey found X” can be direct. “This may indicate Y” marks the inferential step. Research writing becomes trustworthy when the boundary between observation and interpretation is visible.

Hedging is adult language because adults often decide before certainty is complete. The responsible writer makes uncertainty legible rather than hiding it.
