Hysteresis Law states that collapse is easier than recovery. The threshold to fall into a worse Phase is lower than the threshold required to climb back out.

What this law is
Hysteresis is the gap between:
- the conditions that cause a Phase drop, and
- the stronger conditions required to regain the prior Phase
This is a physical property of complex systems with memory, wear, fear, and institutional inertia.
Why it matters
Without hysteresis, leaders assume “if we remove the bad policy, things will revert.” They won’t. After a breach:
- people change behaviour (trust scars)
- organisations lose talent and knowledge (memory half-life)
- systems physically decay (infrastructure inertia)
- corruption networks entrench (capture inertia)
Recovery requires a higher standard of proof and performance to rebuild trust.
