If Mathematics word problems feel confusing, first find out whether the problem is language or mathematics. A learner may know the calculation but fail to translate the situation into quantities and relationships. Another learner may understand the story but not know which operation or model fits it.
Slow the problem down before calculating. Identify what is known, what is changing, what is being compared, and what the question actually asks. Draw or represent the relationship where useful, then decide the mathematical action. Practising this translation step is often more valuable than memorising lists of keywords.
