My Child Understands Science but Cannot Score — What Is Missing?

A smiling student in a blue pinafore holds a pencil over an open book at a classroom desk, with textbooks, a whiteboard and a sunlit window nearby.

If your child understands Science but cannot score, the missing layer may be how that understanding is expressed and applied in the examination. Science marks can be lost through weak terminology, incomplete causal explanation, poor use of evidence, misreading of data, or answers that are broadly true but not precise enough for the question asked.

Compare oral understanding with written answers. Can the child explain the mechanism clearly, identify the evidence, use the correct scientific terms, and connect the answer directly to the question? If understanding is present but marks remain weak, practise the translation from model to examination response rather than reteaching the entire topic.

Use the Science Learning Hub for subject routes and the Examinations & Assessment Hub when the main weakness is answer precision and exam execution.
