Phase Physics Envelope & Load Band Law (Root Spec v1.1)

Definition Lock — Phase (0–3)

Phase is reliability under load.
It is the probability a capability/role/system continues functioning when stressed by real operating conditions.

  • P0: unsafe / unreliable (cannot be trusted under load)
  • P1: works with scaffolding + supervision
  • P2: reliable independent execution (bounded scope)
  • P3: robust under load, handles exceptions, can teach/standardise

Phase is zoom-invariant (Phase Z-Ladder): pocket → person → org → pipeline.

The Load Band Law (Civilisation OS)

Civilisation requires load to stay inside a survivable band.
Too little load causes hollowing + brittleness.
Too much load causes fracture + cascade.

Formal statement

There exists a Load Band:
L_min ≤ L(t) ≤ L_max
such that sustained operation inside this band is the only region where:

  • Phase can rise (P0→P3)
  • regeneration pipelines stay alive
  • capability compounding occurs
  • institutions remain stable (Z2)

Outside the band, Phase reliability decays.

Why Low Load Causes Decay (the “Hollowing” Mechanism)

When L(t) < L_min for long periods:

  1. Under-training: operators stop encountering real exceptions
  2. Overcapacity drift: systems optimize for comfort, not robustness
  3. Skill atrophy: pockets drift downward without stress exposure
  4. Pipeline thinning: fewer “real reps” means weaker replacement
  5. Brittleness drift: structures look strong but are fragile under surprise load

Result: the civilisation becomes a thin lattice that fails catastrophically when shocked.

This is brittle bone physics applied to human capability networks.

Why High Load Causes Collapse (the “Fracture” Mechanism)

When L(t) > L_max:

  1. Error rates spike → Phase collapses locally (P2→P0)
  2. Maintenance backlog grows → repair latency rises
  3. Replacement throughput cannot keep up (Φₐ insufficient)
  4. Shear cascades across lanes/pockets/layers
  5. Organ pipelines collapse (COEE / Organ Extinction)

Result: system enters Collapse Valley (irreversible unless truncated early).

The Phase Envelope (Civilisation Flight Control)

Civilisation is a flight.
Phase is the airworthiness rating.
Load Band is the safe flight envelope.

Inside envelope: Phase stabilises, resilience grows, compounding occurs.
Outside envelope: the system either stalls (low load) or breaks apart (overload).

This becomes the Phase Envelope Law:

Sustained survivability requires:

  1. Load inside band
  2. Replacement flux stable enough to fill pockets
  3. Repair latency below memory half-life

The Hidden Killer: Repair Latency vs Memory Half-Life

Define:

  • τᵣ = repair/replacement latency (time to refill a pocket/role)
  • T½ = memory half-life of that pocket (how fast capability decays without reinforcement)

If τᵣ > T½, the lane cannot be sustained.

This produces:

  • Skill & Knowledge Shear (lane extinction)
  • then Organ Extinction (loss of high-order production like Visionaries/Oracles/Operators)

This is the mechanical bridge from:
Load stress → latency → Phase shear → extinction → collapse.

Practical Diagnostic (The 3 Red Lights)

Civilisation is in danger when you observe:

  1. Load excursions (L below band or above band)
  2. Φₐ turbulence (replacement supply becomes erratic/shock-prone)
  3. τᵣ crossing T½ (skills decay faster than you can refill)

When all three appear together, you’re near CivEI break point.

Closing Bridge (to FlowCiv)

CivEI tells us when civilisation begins and ends.
The Phase Envelope tells us how it stays alive in between.

So FlowCiv is not “history.”
It is the flight path inside the envelope — the continuous control problem of keeping Phase stable while load and constraints change.

Core Kernel (5-OS Loop + CDI)

  1. Mind OS Foundation — stabilises individual cognition (attention, judgement, regulation). Degradation cascades upward (unstable minds → poor Education → misaligned Governance).
  2. Education OS Capability engine (learn → skill → mastery).
  3. Governance OS Steering engine (rules → incentives → legitimacy).
  4. Production OS Reality engine (energy → infrastructure → execution).
  5. Constraint OS Limits (physics → ecology → resources).

Control: Telemetry & Diagnostics (CDI) Drift metrics (buffers, cascades), repair triggers (e.g., low legitimacy → Governance fix).
