Education for Tengah in 2026 and 2027 is a story about two different clocks. One is the school that families can use now: Pioneer Primary School, which began operating at its Tengah campus in 2026. The other is a 2027 application year for a 2028 beginning: Kranji Primary School and MOE Kindergarten @ Kranji are preparing for their Tengah campus.
Did you know that a school scheduled to open in 2028 can still require a decision in 2027? That is the detail new-town families are most likely to overlook. The Primary 1 registration exercise ordinarily takes place the year before a child starts Primary 1; a separate kindergarten registration exercise applies to a child entering Kindergarten 1.
This quick guide separates what is open in Tengah in October 2026, what parents should prepare during 2027, and what is planned for 2028 or later. It is a planning map rather than an admissions guarantee. Details, deadlines, vacancies and eligibility must be checked against MOE’s and the schools’ live notices.

The short answer: which school is available, and when?
- 2026: Pioneer Primary School is operating in Tengah; MK@Pioneer opened alongside the relocation.
- 2027: Families with children due to enter Primary 1 in 2028 should follow the 2027 P1 Registration Exercise, including any Kranji Primary arrangements for its new campus.
- 2027: Families seeking Kindergarten 1 at the new MK@Kranji in 2028 should check MOE Kindergarten’s 2027 registration notices. The school describes March as the usual period, not a confirmed 2027 registration date.
- 2028: Kranji Primary plans to start operations at its Tengah campus, and MK@Kranji plans to welcome its first K1 cohort.
- 2030, not 2027: Anglo-Chinese School (Primary)’s planned move to Tengah remains a separate longer-term development; it is not an operating Tengah primary school today.
A name on a future map is not the same as an available school place. That distinction matters in a developing estate: the building timetable, a child’s entry year and the registration exercise are three different facts.
A useful timeline from October 2026 through 2027
Late 2026: get the school-year calculation right
Begin with the year your child will actually enter school. A child entering P1 in 2027 would normally have taken part in the 2026 registration exercise. A child entering P1 in 2028 belongs to the 2027 exercise. A child entering K1 in 2028 follows the separate MOE Kindergarten registration process. The two systems should not be treated as one queue.
Parents can use MOE’s SchoolFinder to compare current school locations and school programmes, but should check a relocating school’s official notices for the campus that applies in the relevant year. The address on an older article or map can be historically correct and still be the wrong address for the journey being planned.
Early 2027: check the 2028 kindergarten intake
Kranji Primary School states that MK@Kranji at Tengah Garden Walk opens in 2028 and that parents wishing to enrol children for 2028 K1 may register in the 2027 MOE Kindergarten exercise. Its school page says that exercise typically takes place in March; exact dates and steps are to be confirmed in an official announcement. MK@Kranji describes a four-hour K1/K2 programme and points families needing longer care to KCare.
If a family needs a K2 place in 2027, an MK opening in 2028 does not solve that need. The family should research presently operating preschool choices rather than relying on a future launch.
Mid-2027: follow the Primary 1 registration exercise
MOE states that P1 registration for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents is normally conducted online from June to August, over Phases 1, 2A, 2B, 2C and 2C Supplementary. These are general arrangements, not a confirmed day-by-day calendar for 2027. The right action is to check the live P1 registration portal when MOE publishes the 2027 timetable.
For Kranji Primary’s future Tengah intake, an important point is already documented: the school’s 2028 relocation means interested 2028 P1 families should pay attention during 2027. Do not presume that a school’s past Choa Chu Kang admission arrangements can simply be copied onto its new Tengah campus.
Three decisions that matter more than a school ranking
- Choose the correct entry year. Write down ‘P1 in 2028’ or ‘K1 in 2028’ before reading application advice. It prevents the most expensive kind of mistake: following the wrong year’s deadline.
- Verify the applicable site. Check MOE’s school record and the school’s latest relocation notice for the campus relevant to your child. Do not calculate travel time from an old address.
- Separate school fit from admission priority. A school’s learning programme, caregiving arrangements, daily commute and a child’s temperament deserve attention; proximity, available places and phase eligibility govern a different question.
Did you know that two children living in the same Tengah block may need entirely different plans? One might start P1 while a younger sibling enters K1. They are not competing in the same admission exercise, and one successful application should not be assumed to guarantee the other.
Worked family example: two calendars, one household
Illustrative example: A family in Tengah has a child due to start P1 in 2028 and a younger child due to start K1 in 2028. In October 2026, the family makes two entries on its planning sheet. The P1 entry reads: ‘Check Kranji Primary and other suitable schools in the 2027 MOE P1 Registration Exercise.’ The K1 entry reads: ‘Check MK@Kranji’s 2027 K1 registration instructions for the 2028 intake.’
The family then records the journey from home to each relevant campus, an alternative school or preschool, the daily collection arrangements and a space to record MOE’s actual deadlines once announced. It does not write ‘Kranji confirmed’ beside either child. Planning information is not an offer of admission.
For present-day school experience rather than future registration logistics, read the existing Pioneer Primary School 2026–2027 profile. That article focuses on the school’s learning programmes; this page owns the 2027-to-2028 decision calendar.
Quick questions from Tengah families
Is Kranji Primary already operating in Tengah in 2026?
No. Its official school site says the Tengah relocation is planned for 2028. The current and future campuses must not be confused.
Do parents apply to Kranji Primary only in 2028?
No. The 2027 P1 Registration Exercise is relevant to children entering P1 in 2028. Check the specific exercise instructions and the school’s notices when they are released.
Is MK@Kranji the same application as P1 registration?
No. Kindergarten 1 and Primary 1 have separate application systems and eligibility rules. K1 admission does not itself establish a guaranteed future P1 place.
What if the planned opening date or arrangement changes?
Use MOE and the individual school’s latest dated announcement as the authoritative source. Keep a second feasible option, especially if childcare arrangements depend on a precise opening date.
