If NUS, NTU and SMU have all offered you places, you normally choose and accept one offer—not all three—through Singapore’s Joint Acceptance Portal (JAP) where your qualification falls under that shared platform. The universities assess applications separately, so a student may receive multiple offers, but the common acceptance system records one choice at a time. Acceptance must be submitted by the relevant deadline or the offer can lapse. Do not wait for every university to reply if doing so means missing an existing offer’s expiry.
Students searching “how does Joint Acceptance Portal work Singapore”, “can I accept both NUS and NTU”, “NUS NTU SMU 2026 offer acceptance windows”, “can I change university after accepting JAP” or “university application pending should I accept another?” should check NUS’s offer instructions, NTU’s acceptance guidance and SMU’s accepted-qualification routes. For 2026, the shared acceptance windows were 2 January–25 May and 1–16 June. These are 2026 dates, not guaranteed dates for later intakes.
Did you know? Accepting an available place while waiting for a later university decision is explicitly recommended in NUS’s guidance. This helps protect a real option, but it does not create two final university places. The key is to watch each offer’s deadline, understand which portal your qualification uses and make the degree decision based on curriculum and fit rather than panic over a calendar.

PART 1 OF 4
Know whether you should use JAP or a university’s own acceptance portal
The Joint Acceptance Portal coordinates offer acceptance across participating Singapore autonomous universities for specified qualification groups. Students who apply to NUS, NTU and SMU are assessed by each institution separately, but eligible offers can appear in the shared system so that applicants can make one final selection.
NTU lists Singapore-Cambridge A-Level holders, diploma holders from specified Singapore institutions, relevant local IB graduates and NUS High School Diploma holders among those who use the Joint Acceptance Platform. SMU similarly lists A-Level holders, local polytechnic diploma holders, graduates of named local IB schools and NUS High School Diploma holders.
However, the same arrangement does not apply indiscriminately to every international qualification or programme. SMU directs applicants with international or other unlisted qualifications to its Applicant’s Self-Service Portal. NTU says international-qualification applicants and part-time programme applicants use the NTU portal. NUS’s electronic offer letter and applicant portal provide the relevant instructions for each applicant.
Before clicking anything, open each official offer letter and note the acceptance method. If you have two offers under different qualification categories or a special admissions route, do not assume the same JAP page covers both. Follow the instructions attached to each offer and seek university guidance where they appear inconsistent.
A practical parent–student check
- Confirm which qualifications and programmes use JAP.
- Open the original electronic offer letters.
- Record the application number and official acceptance link for each offer.
- Use a university-specific acceptance portal when your qualification requires it.
In 2026, the shared offer acceptance windows were 2 January to 25 May for offers received before the first deadline, followed by 1 to 16 June for offers made in the second period. SMU’s official 2026 acceptance guidance states that students receiving offers in the first window had to make a decision by 25 May and could not simply postpone their response to the second window.
That calendar matters when admissions outcomes are staggered. A student might receive one offer in April while waiting for another application, an interview result or an appeal. If the first offer has a deadline, leaving it untouched can cause it to lapse even if the later university has not made its decision.
NUS advises applicants to accept an available offer while awaiting another outcome or an appeal. In a later permitted acceptance period, a new offer may require a change of selection through the shared system according to that year’s rules. Follow the current portal and university guidance rather than assuming any old first-window offer remains freely selectable after expiry.
For another intake, look up the new dates. A parent searching this in October 2026 should not plan around the completed May–June 2026 window for a student applying in 2027. The calendar is useful as a model; the child’s actual acceptance deadline is the authority.
A practical parent–student check
- Write down each offer’s exact acceptance deadline.
- Do not postpone a first-window offer because a second window exists.
- Check how a later offer changes the available options.
- Use year-specific JAP dates, not a previous cycle’s calendar.

Once several offers arrive, the decision can feel like a league table. But the best university choice is often not the institution whose name attracts the loudest reaction at dinner. It is the degree whose modules, teaching, internships, academic support and future pathways suit the student.
Make a simple comparison across NUS, NTU and SMU offers: compulsory first-year modules, major flexibility, assessment style, project and internship opportunities, financial support, commute or residence arrangements, and the broad work you would enjoy learning to do. An engineering offer and a business offer should not be compared only by ranking because they train different capabilities.
Financial commitments also matter. Read scholarship terms and conditions, including any service bond, residence requirements or rules about concurrent funding. A university programme offer and a scholarship offer can have different decision timelines. If scholarship results remain pending, contact the relevant university for clarification rather than assuming you can accept multiple university places to preserve every scholarship possibility.
The course-versus-university guide and local-or-overseas degree comparison help make the choice substantive. A good acceptance is one you can explain in terms of what you hope to learn, not merely where you were offered a place.
A practical parent–student check
- Compare the actual programmes rather than university names.
- Review scholarships, financial assistance and any bonds separately.
- Ask about flexibility to change majors or courses later.
- Choose based on educational fit before making the final acceptance selection.

When ready, use the official link in the offer letter, enter the required application details and select the intended university programme. Review the displayed choice carefully before submitting. Save any confirmation record and keep a copy of each offer letter and relevant conditions.
NUS explains that a JAP acceptance can take time to appear in its applicant portal; its current guidance says the acceptance is reflected three calendar days after the acceptance deadline. Do not mistake that delay for a failed submission without checking the confirmation process. If something seems wrong, contact the admitting university through its official enquiry channel.
After acceptance, follow the separate enrolment instructions: personal particulars, health checks when required, tuition-grant decisions, financial-aid applications, accommodation and course registration. Accepting an offer is the beginning of admission administration, not the completion of the student’s first university semester.
If another offer or appeal outcome arrives, examine whether its deadline permits you to change your recorded university choice and what the official steps are. Our offer-while-waiting guide and university appeal guide explain the adjoining decisions. The aim is to end the process with one confirmed place, no missed deadlines and a student ready to begin learning.
A practical parent–student check
- Submit one correct offer selection through the proper acceptance channel.
- Keep the offer and confirmation documents.
- Complete separate matriculation and financial-aid tasks.
- If a new offer arrives, follow the live procedure before changing the selection.
