To choose a JC from your Singapore estate, identify eligible courses and a suitable complete subject combination, then compare the actual school week. A convenient journey is useful only if the route supports the learning you intend to pursue.
Start from your exact home address and the college’s current teaching campus. Compare time, transfers and the final walk alongside teaching, support and the combination you could actually take.
This guide runs through all HDB towns and estates in five practical groups. It helps families consider local and cross-island options without assuming that each estate has a JC or that the nearest college is automatically the best fit.

MOE’s JAE posting explanation states that you can select only courses whose admission criteria you meet. Read the requirements for your own intake and application route.
Use the JC subject-combination guide to compare the full package. Check school-specific subject prerequisites, combination availability and timetable conditions directly with each college.
If the A-Level route itself is uncertain, begin with JC versus polytechnic or JC versus Millennia Institute. Travel convenience should be considered after the learning route has a clear purpose.
The table includes all 27 HDB towns and estates. It groups home locations for comparison; it is not a list of colleges or an admission boundary.
For smaller neighbourhoods—Admiralty, Marsiling, Yew Tee, Simei, MacPherson, Potong Pasir, Bidadari, Tiong Bahru, Dover, Holland Village, Novena, Thomson or Orchard—enter the actual address. A route from the town’s main station may omit the largest part of your morning.
Confirm the college’s teaching address for the intake, especially when a relocation or temporary campus is mentioned. Keep present arrangements separate from a future announced move.
| Search area | Towns and estates | First practical check |
|---|---|---|
| North | Woodlands, Sembawang, Yishun | Work backwards from arrival time. |
| North-east | Ang Mo Kio, Hougang, Punggol, Sengkang, Serangoon | Compare complete subject combinations. |
| East | Bedok, Marine Parade, Pasir Ris, Tampines | Test the return after activities. |
| West | Bukit Batok, Bukit Panjang, Choa Chu Kang, Clementi, Jurong East, Jurong West, Tengah | Verify the teaching campus for the intake. |
| Central and south | Bishan, Bukit Merah, Bukit Timah, Central Area, Geylang, Kallang/Whampoa, Queenstown, Toa Payoh | Include the final walk and study time. |
From northern homes, compare a nearby candidate with a farther combination match by working backwards from the required arrival time. Identify the departure time that still leaves enough sleep, breakfast and a reasonable margin.
From north-eastern or eastern homes, check whether the attractive route depends on several connections. Time a late return as well as a morning arrival; practical work, CCA and consultations may change the day you first imagined.
From western, central or southern homes, include the last stretch to the campus and any weekly activities. An apparently simple rail journey can still leave a demanding full week once independent study and commitments are added.
Write a comparison with four columns: eligible course, confirmed subject combination, learning and support reasons, and weekly routine. Do not award a school a subject advantage until it has confirmed that the combination is available to you.
For an illustrative decision, a longer journey might be justified by an important subject combination. If both colleges offer an equally suitable package, the shorter routine may leave more space for revision, meals and recovery. These are family trade-offs rather than universal travel limits.
Ask what you would do if a desired subject were unavailable or a daily lift stopped. Keep the answer realistic before ranking choices. The main school-choice hub contains separate guides for cut-off points, elective programmes and individual H2 subjects.
