Did you know? H2 Knowledge and Inquiry asks you to examine how knowledge is constructed and justified. Consider it if you enjoy asking what supports a claim and are willing to develop careful arguments rather than stop at an interesting opinion.
Eunoia Junior College describes KI through discussion and independent research across areas such as science, history, mathematics and ethics. Use this as a concrete example of the learning experience, then investigate the intended college’s current course.
Confirm how KI fits your subject combination and workload. EJC’s current information says all students offer H1 General Paper and that KI is offered as a fourth H2 subject. Do not use older advice that assumes KI replaces GP.

Reviewed 10 October 2026. Confirm current requirements, available options and application arrangements with the relevant school or university.
Start with a claim you encounter in school and ask how someone would establish it. What counts as evidence? Which assumptions matter? Would the same method work in another subject?
EJC’s description focuses on evaluating knowledge in different disciplines. The interest is not only in knowing more facts, but in understanding why a particular account deserves confidence and where its limits lie.
Try a teacher-recommended reading or discussion task. Notice whether you enjoy clarifying a question and considering an objection. A taste for debate is useful only when it comes with a willingness to examine your own reasoning.
Look at how you handle a demanding passage. Can you identify its main claim, distinguish a reason from an example and explain a point in your own words? Ask a teacher which part needs development.
Review your written work for clear connections between claims and reasons. An unusual idea still needs explanation. Practise responding to an objection without changing the subject or simply repeating your position.
Consider whether you can work independently when an answer is not immediately obvious. EJC describes an independent study essay as part of its course. Ask the college for the current syllabus and guidance on the demands for your examination year.

EJC states that KI students are selected through a test at the start of JC1. Confirm the current instructions, dates and conditions at the college you intend to join; do not assume another school’s process applies.
Ask which combinations can include KI and how the contrasting-subject requirement is met. EJC identifies KI as a contrasting subject for both Arts and Science students, but your own timetable and approval still need confirmation.
Check prospective university prerequisites directly before finalising the combination. An intellectually attractive subject should fit alongside any subjects required for routes you want to keep open.

Ask how discussion, reading, writing and independent work are paced through the year. Compare that plan with your other H2 subjects, GP and regular commitments.
Find out how students receive feedback and what they can do when a research question becomes too broad. Learning to narrow a question can be as important as generating an ambitious one.
Choose using the subject’s activities, teacher feedback and your full timetable. Our four-H2 guide and subject-combination guide help you weigh the wider plan. If KI fits, begin with disciplined curiosity and regular writing.
