Start here: identify the decision before collecting evidence
Verify an ACCET claim at the level where education is actually delivered: legal institution, exact branch or auxiliary classroom, programme or course, delivery mode and start date. ACCET is an institutional accreditor for continuing education and training, but that institution-level fact does not make every new programme, location or relocation automatically approved. ACCET’s current guidance requires approval before an institution advertises, enrols or offers a new programme or course.
Next open the live institutional directory and current action pages. Separate accredited, show-cause, appealed adverse action, closure, resignation and expiration. An institution appealing denial or withdrawal remains accredited under ACCET’s stated current rule until the appeal is resolved and a final action occurs; that is not permission to describe the risk as absent. If a location or programme is closing, the learner needs the written teach-out, records and refund route—not merely a historical accreditation fact.
This guide was checked on 28 October 2026 against current primary guidance. ACCET sources checked on 28 October 2026 distinguish main institution, branch and auxiliary classroom; new programme approval; relocation and other substantive change; show cause; appealed and final adverse action; closure and teach-out. A branch needs interim approval before advertising, enrolling or teaching and later receives full review. A relocation outside the general area may be treated as a closure and new-site process. Accreditation does not replace state authorization, immigration certification, professional licensure or employer acceptance.
This specialist sits under The Gold Standard of Education: Learning That Transfers into Life. The parent framework keeps the purpose visible: understand the system, act on the correct evidence and build independence for the next decision.

1. Name the legal institution and delivery site
Record the provider, exact address, programme, mode and start date.
Brand names and shared facilities can hide the entity that owns the learner record.
Decision rehearsal and changed-context transfer
Turn this chapter into a live file. the prospective continuing-education, vocational, language or training student, parent, sponsor, adviser, current learner, graduate, registrar, compliance officer, employer or credential reviewer checking an ACCET route states the present decision in one sentence. ACCET, the legal institution, branch or auxiliary classroom, programme leadership, state authority, learner, records custodian, any immigration or professional body and employer supplies only the evidence it owns. the current ACCET directory entry and action page, exact location classification, approved programme or course, substantive-change approval, state authorization, enrolment agreement, teach-out plan, transcript or certificate, refund record and destination decision records the result. Date every source and distinguish an official fact, an institution-specific decision, an estimate and a personal preference.
Now change one condition: the receiving organisation changes. Preserve every fact that remains valid and reopen only the conclusions that depend on the changed condition. Name the new page, document, calculation or contact required. This is the difference between understanding a system and memorising one outcome.
Run a boundary test. Write what the current evidence proves, what it does not prove and who has authority over the next decision. Replace one identifier, date or category and repeat the reasoning. If the conclusion changes without a cited rule or written decision, an assumption has entered the file.
Finish with a five-line handover: current state; controlling source; unresolved question; next permitted action; review date. A parent, adviser or future learner should be able to reconstruct the case without relying on memory or a private conversation.
2. Distinguish branch and auxiliary classroom
Match the location to ACCET’s current classification.
A temporary or limited classroom is not automatically a branch, and neither inherits approval by proximity.

3. Confirm the approved programme
Open the current scope before relying on advertising.
Institutional accreditation does not pre-approve every future course.

4. Verify approval before recruitment
Save the new-programme or branch approval that predates advertising and enrolment.
A planned application is not an approval.

5. Audit substantive changes
Check ownership, name, location, delivery, programme and other reportable changes.
A familiar accreditation certificate can coexist with an unapproved change.

6. Read annual and continuing oversight
Preserve annual reports and any follow-up conditions relevant to the current term.
Accreditation is maintained through continuing evidence, not a one-time inspection.

7. Open show-cause records
Read the exact grounds, deadline and current Commission state.
Show cause is not ordinary accreditation even when the institution remains accredited.

8. Handle an appealed adverse action
Record the appeal and distinguish temporary continuation from the final outcome.
An appeal does not make the underlying risk disappear.

9. Prepare for closure or relocation
Obtain the teach-out, records custodian, refund and completion options.
Relocation outside the general area may change the regulatory route.

10. Repair a learner-file gap
Ask the provider and responsible authority for the missing approval or custody record in writing.
Do not wait for closure to discover where transcripts will be held.

11. Choose with the whole chain visible
Compare accreditation, state authority, programme fit, cost, transfer and destination acceptance.
Accreditation is necessary evidence for some goals, not a universal outcome promise.

Authoritative sources and evidence boundary
These primary sources were checked on 28 October 2026. Reopen the live record near any enrolment, recognition, immigration, transfer, funding or licensing decision because statuses, dates and operating guidance can change.
- ACCET maintaining accreditation and substantive-change controls
- ACCET initial institutional accreditation process
- ACCET reaccreditation process and continuing review
- ACCET current standards, policies, applications and reports
- ACCET current adverse actions and appeal boundary
- ACCET current institutions on show cause
- ACCET current closures, resignations and expirations
- ACCET current frequently asked questions and institutional guidance
A source can establish only the fact within its remit. Keep the current authority record beside learner-specific evidence and obtain the responsible organisation’s written decision where acceptance, credit, protection, immigration or eligibility is at stake.

Build an auditable decision file
Open with the exact decision and its deadline. Attach the current current ACCET directory entry and latest show-cause, adverse-action or closure record for the exact institution and location, the learner-specific record and the receiver’s published requirements. A general webpage explains a rule; it does not replace a learner-specific decision from the responsible body.
Create one evidence row for each controlling fact: institution, branch, auxiliary classroom, exact address, approved programme, course, delivery mode, interim branch approval, full review, new programme approval, relocation, substantive change, annual report, show cause, appealed adverse action, final action, closure, teach-out, records custodian, refund, state authorization and learner completion. Give every row a source, retrieval date, status and owner. Mark a fact confirmed only when the cited source proves it. Use reported, estimated or pending for everything else.
Separate inputs from outputs. Inputs are facts supplied by the learner, provider or authority. Outputs are comparisons, classifications and decisions made from them. If an output looks wrong, check the input, then the dated rule, then any recorded exception.
Keep a change log for ACCET status, location classification, programme scope, delivery mode, substantive-change approval, show cause, appeal, closure, teach-out, state authorization and learner record. Record the old fact, new fact, date learned, source and every conclusion that must be reopened. Do not silently overwrite the earlier state; the history explains why a reasonable plan changed.
Add a deadline map with the formal deadline, an earlier internal deadline and the recovery route if evidence arrives late. Where no recovery route is published, record that absence rather than inventing one. Reopen the official page near the action date because archived guidance can look authoritative.
Use a responsibility matrix. ACCET owns institutional accreditation and change approval; the provider owns delivery, disclosures and learner records; the state owns authorization; other bodies own immigration or professional decisions; employers own acceptance within law. If two people assume the other has acted, the file should expose the gap before the deadline.
Keep a contact note for each official enquiry: channel, date, question, answer and reference number. If verbal advice conflicts with a published rule or written decision, ask for clarification in writing before an irreversible action.
Run a source hierarchy check. Put the responsible authority first, current operational guidance second, the learner-specific notice third and informal explanation last. Where two official pages appear inconsistent, record both dates and ask which governs the present case.
Schedule a cold review two working days before any irreversible boundary. Recheck names, identifiers, dates, programme codes, study load and document version. Save the submission acknowledgement without treating receipt as approval.
After the decision, reconcile the notice with the plan line by line. Record what was accepted, refused, limited or deferred and the route for correction, review or appeal. Preserve the original decision when adding later correspondence.
Add a “not yet proved” page. List every conclusion that still depends on institution, branch, auxiliary classroom, exact address, approved programme, course, delivery mode, interim branch approval, full review, new programme approval, relocation, substantive change, annual report, show cause, appealed adverse action, final action, closure, teach-out, records custodian, refund, state authorization and learner completion. Beside each item, name the smallest official record that would settle it and the person who can obtain that record. This stops a plausible estimate from drifting into the confirmed column merely because it has been repeated.
Rehearse a correction request before one is needed. Identify the learner, present decision, disputed input, supporting document and requested remedy without claiming an entitlement the evidence cannot establish. Address it to the organisation that owns the record or decision, keep a copy, and record the published response or escalation route.
Ask an independent reader to challenge the file. They should identify the weakest assumption, locate the official sentence that controls it and describe what changes if the assumption fails. Record that answer without deleting the earlier reasoning; the audit trail should show learning, not pretend uncertainty never existed.
Build a conservative time and cost plan beside the evidence file. Show what is already confirmed, what is estimated, which payment or enrolment step becomes irreversible and when. Then test a delayed decision and a less favourable outcome. The exercise does not predict the authority’s answer; it prevents an optimistic reading from becoming an unexamined commitment.
Ask the prospective continuing-education, vocational, language or training student, parent, sponsor, adviser, current learner, graduate, registrar, compliance officer, employer or credential reviewer checking an ACCET route to narrate the case aloud in under two minutes: “This is my present state; this is the governing source; this is the learner-specific evidence; this is the unresolved boundary; this is my next permitted action.” A listener should be able to distinguish fact, comparison and choice without prompting.
Practise one counterfactual. Change only the provider name remains constant but the learner changes branch, classroom, programme, delivery mode, start date, state, professional goal or closure date and trace which conclusions stay valid. The exercise reveals whether the learner understands the dependency chain or has memorised an answer belonging to another case.
Finish with a retention plan. Keep source documents, decisions, receipts and later corrections for as long as they remain useful to explain the education record. Store identifiers securely and share only what the named recipient needs.
Frequently asked questions
Does ACCET accredit individual courses?
ACCET provides institutional accreditation, while programme and course additions still require the stated approval process.
Can a new branch recruit before approval?
Current ACCET guidance requires interim approval before advertising, enrolling or teaching at the branch.
Is an auxiliary classroom the same as a branch?
No. Read the current classification and permitted activity.
What does show cause mean?
It is a serious Commission action requiring the institution to demonstrate why accreditation should continue.
Is an institution accredited during an appeal?
ACCET states that an appealed denial or withdrawal remains accredited until appeal resolution and final action; record that qualified posture exactly.
Does closure cancel every learner record?
No, but the learner needs the official records-custody and teach-out arrangements.
Does ACCET accreditation grant professional licensure?
No. The destination regulator decides licensure.
What should a learner save?
Directory and action records, enrolment agreement, scope and location evidence, payments, progress records, teach-out notices and transcript.
Close the workbook by explaining the process without notes. A dependable explanation names the authority, present state, evidence, deadline and consequence if one assumption fails.
