A recall notice is only the beginning
A manufacturer issues a safety notice affecting a particular model of clinical equipment. The hospital must identify affected units, assess risk, take appropriate action and verify completion. Filing the notice does not protect patients.
Confirm the affected scope
Check model, serial, lot, software and other relevant identifiers against authoritative recall information.
Assign clinical and technical responsibility
Clinical engineering, procurement and affected care teams may need coordinated actions under institutional procedures.
Protect continuity of care
Removing equipment may require suitable alternatives. Qualified teams should balance recall actions with patient needs.
Control affected devices
Apply appropriate restrictions, modifications or removal according to the notice and approved local procedures.
Document completion
Track each affected asset, action taken, responsible personnel and verification status.
Communicate with users
Staff need clear guidance about which devices can be used and any remaining precautions.
Break-test: one recalled device is missing from the inventory
Can the hospital trace movement records and perform appropriate field checks before declaring the recall complete?
