A safer release expands only when evidence supports it
A government agency introduces a revised application form to a small group before wider deployment. Progressive rollout controls determine whether the service is reliable enough to expand without creating avoidable harm.
Define rollout stages
Set appropriate scope, timing and decision authority for each expansion.
Measure complete transactions
Page availability alone is insufficient. Check submission, payment, case creation and notification where relevant.
Protect fairness
Different release groups should not receive inconsistent authorised decisions or unjustified treatment.
Monitor accessibility and exceptions
Assisted users and unusual application cases may reveal failures hidden by ordinary tests.
Establish stop and rollback criteria
Significant errors should trigger controlled response under approved procedures.
Reconcile affected cases
If problems occur, assign ownership and verify financial and service records.
Break-test: the first stage succeeds but a later group exposes a payment defect
Can the agency pause expansion and correct affected users promptly?
