Which MOE and SEAB Syllabus Does My Child Need? | Primary 1–6, PSLE and SEC Subject Finder

Three students sit around open books and worksheets at a classroom table, reading, writing and discussing the work together.

Did you know that “the syllabus” can mean two different documents? MOE curriculum syllabuses describe what students learn; SEAB examination specifications describe what candidates must demonstrate in a particular examination year. For Primary 1–6, begin with the MOE primary directory. For 2026 PSLE, use the exact Standard, Foundation or Higher subject entry. For SEC, select the examination year, candidate type, subject name and G level before opening the PDF.

For the 2027 school-candidate SEC listings, English is K100/K200/K300 and Mathematics is K110/K210/K310 at G1/G2/G3 respectively. Other subjects do not all exist at all three levels, so the directories below cover languages, Science, Humanities, creative, technical and applied subjects. PG1, PG2 and PG3 are Posting Groups; they are not examination syllabus codes.

If you need an answer now, write down five details: your child’s school year, exact subject, confirmed level or course, examination year and school/private candidate status. Use the matching directory and verify the PDF cover. Then read the content and scheme of assessment separately. This guide is the subject finder for the series; the companion articles explain how the learning connects from primary school onwards.

Checked 10 October 2026, Singapore time. Primary learning examples below are teaching illustrations; the school’s current scheme of work determines topic order. PSLE references are for 2026 and SEC references for 2027. A child entering Secondary 1 in 2027 ordinarily reaches Secondary 4 in 2030; use the examination-year syllabus when it is issued. This independent guide explains learning and choices; official offers come from the school.

CHAPTER 1 OF 7

Which document is needed for Primary 1–6?

Use MOE’s primary subjects and syllabuses for English, Mother Tongue, Mathematics, Science, Art, Music, Physical Education, Social Studies and Character and Citizenship Education. Formal Science starts at Primary 3. The directory leads to the relevant curriculum documents; the school’s scheme of work supplies the current classroom sequence.

A curriculum document can cover several school years. Read its implementation information and the relevant stage rather than treating the entire document as this term’s checklist. For a question about what comes next in school, ask the teacher which learning outcomes are being addressed and which earlier knowledge is assumed.

In Primary 5 and 6, confirm Standard or Foundation for each applicable subject and whether the child offers Higher MTL. These labels concern a subject combination, not a complete judgement about the child. MOE’s primary SBB explanation shows how the P4 recommendation and later review work.

The companion Primary 1–6 guide gives a parent observation map. It deliberately separates a broad learning progression from an official topic allocation. Use the official curriculum for coverage and the observation map to ask whether the child can use that learning independently.

All subject entries in SEAB’s 2026 PSLE formats directory; “—” means no corresponding entry in that column.

Open the official 2026 PSLE directory and choose the exact row. Mathematics and Science, including their Foundation versions, are marked revised. Use the document attached to the entry instead of assuming an older practice resource has the current structure.

Check the paper components, marks, timing and resource rules. For a language, do not assume another language’s paper structure applies. For Mathematics, distinguish the calculator and non-calculator work. For Science, check the specified question types and duration. These details tell you what kind of practice is relevant.

An NTIL listing does not by itself establish an individual child’s registration or teaching arrangement. Check the applicable approval and school instructions. The directory identifies specifications; the school and relevant registration process identify the candidate’s actual entry.

Complete 2027 G3 school-candidate directory, grouped by subject family. This is a finder, not a list of subjects every school offers.

Open the G3 directory and click the exact title. Economics, Business and the applied offerings have approved-school restrictions in the listing. Read the school’s actual menu before assuming any is available. SEAB notes examining-agency fees for the G3 applied subjects.

Some subjects have specimen materials for revised or new syllabuses. A dash in the listing is not proof that the subject has no examination or no assessment requirements. Open the syllabus itself and read its scheme of assessment.

The directories also identify certain subjects or papers involving e-Examination. Follow the relevant PDF and the school’s current instructions. Do not infer that every subject now uses the same examination medium or that an online specimen reproduces every copyright-controlled resource.

CHAPTER 5 OF 7

How do PG1–PG3 connect to the syllabus choice?

Posting Group eligibility concerns entry. The child’s actual subject level concerns curriculum and examination demand. A mixed subject portfolio needs separate entries: for example, G2 English and G3 Mathematics require two different PDFs. A Posting Group is not a shortcut that selects every syllabus for the student.

The overall PSLE score and individual subject results therefore serve different functions. MOE’s Posting Groups guidance sets out entry bands. MOE’s Full SBB school-experience guidance explains subject flexibility. Ask school for the actual offered combination and any proposed bridge rather than deriving the whole portfolio from an overall score.

Once a level changes, review the content gap and the assessment structure. A student may already know part of the more demanding material, but that does not establish familiarity with all task types. Make the additional learning visible and agree how progress will be reviewed.

Keep the examination year in view. The 2027 SEC listings are the first published SEC examination-year set. A P6 child in 2026 entering S1 in 2027 ordinarily reaches S4 in 2030. As later specifications are published, check the one that applies to that candidate. The earlier listing can orient a family, but cannot guarantee unchanged future requirements.

CHAPTER 6 OF 7

How do you turn a PDF into a useful study plan?

Read in three passes. First, identify the cover: subject, code, level, year and candidate category. Second, read the content and assessment objectives to see what knowledge and thinking are expected. Third, read the scheme of assessment and resource rules to understand how the candidate must demonstrate it.

  • Write the exact subject and code at the top of the plan.
  • Use the school’s topic order for immediate learning.
  • Identify prerequisites that block the current topic.
  • Separate coverage from demonstrated independent understanding.
  • Match practice to the actual task types.
  • Introduce timed work once the learner can complete the task with control.
  • Recheck the official specification when the examination year or subject level changes.

For an original example, a student preparing for a graph task might first learn what the axes and units mean, then interpret a trend, then explain its significance. The syllabus tells you whether that representation and explanation belong to the course; the work sample tells you which step needs teaching. Both pieces of information are necessary.

A chapter ticked off in a book is evidence of exposure, not necessarily mastery. Ask the learner to complete a changed question without a hint and explain the method. If that is difficult, identify the missing connection before adding another chapter. If it is secure, progress to a modest new challenge.

Where school and private candidate requirements differ, use the correct SEAB candidate directory. This article’s SEC tables cover school candidates. Do not treat them as a registration menu for private candidates. The official SEC overview provides separate routes.

CHAPTER 7 OF 7

Which companion guide should you read next?

Choose a question rather than reading every page at once. The series separates the primary-year map from subject learning progressions and the examination finder. The linked existing handbook remains the owner of broad Full SBB portfolio decisions; these new articles provide cross-stage learning routes and a current subject-directory index.

Read the existing subject-by-subject G1/G2/G3 decision handbook for level, workload and portfolio decisions. Use the existing Full SBB hub for the established pathway series.

The next helpful action may be very small: confirm the code on the school offer, replace an outdated format assumption or identify one prerequisite the student needs. A correct reference and a precise question can turn a large education system into a manageable next step.
