Many smart humans aren’t failing because they are lazy, weak, or incapable. They are failing because a specific learning capability breaks first, and most systems never diagnose which one. That’s why humans can practise more, try harder, or repeat training—and still plateau.
This page is not a full framework. It’s a fast entry point into Universal Learning Diagnostics (ULD): a diagnostic standard used across school learning, institutional training, and adult performance. If you only want the fastest way to find the bottleneck, start here.

The 3-Minute Reality Check: Practice Does Not Equal Progress
When humans hit a plateau, most advice sounds like:
- “Do more practice.”
- “Be more consistent.”
- “Try harder.”
Sometimes that works. Often it doesn’t—because practice amplifies whatever system you’re running, including the broken parts. If the bottleneck is not identified first, practice becomes noise.
ULD solves this by asking one question:
What breaks first?
The 10-Minute Diagnostic (ULD Quick Test)
This is the minimum diagnostic sequence. It is designed to work for humans in school, training, and real performance.
Step 1: Simplify (Depth check)
Remove pressure and prompts. Keep it calm.
Ask:
- “Can I explain this in my own words?”
- “Can I reconstruct the steps without a template?”
- “Can I spot an error?”
If you fail here, the bottleneck is likely Depth.

Step 2: Constrain (Load check)
Keep the same task. Add constraint.
Add:
- time pressure
- mild observation
- higher density (multi-step)
If you collapse only when constraints appear, the bottleneck is likely Load.
Load:

Step 3: Vary (Transfer check)
Keep the core idea. Change the form.
Change:
- format (written ↔ spoken, diagram ↔ words)
- context (same structure, different setting)
- cues (remove hints)
If you collapse when it looks different, the bottleneck is likely Transfer.
Transfer:

Why This Works Across School, Training, and Real Life
This quick test works because it measures capability—not effort.
- If the human cannot explain/reconstruct → Depth is weak
- If the human collapses under constraint → Load is weak
- If the human collapses under novelty → Transfer is weak
Those are the only three universal failure modes ULD tracks.
What to Do Next (Without Guessing)

The One Rule That Prevents Plateau Loops
Diagnose before you prescribe.
If you skip diagnosis, every fix becomes random, and every plateau returns.

Protocol Reminder (Non-Negotiable)
If any step in this protocol is skipped:
- diagnosis must be treated as provisional
- repair should not be escalated
- retesting is required
ULD remains reliable only when the protocol is respected.
