“Yes.” “No.” “Because it is good.” These responses may answer the surface question but give the listener almost nothing to work with.

Extended answer: “Yes, some choice can be beneficial because students may engage more deeply with topics they genuinely care about. For example, a student interested in transport could investigate commuting patterns rather than complete a generic topic. However, teachers still need to assess whether each proposal is feasible and academically appropriate.”

Avoid Rambling
An extended answer should grow around one central idea. If the response changes topic repeatedly, more words do not create more quality.
A 30-Second Practice
Choose a simple question. Give a direct answer in five seconds, then add one reason, one example and one qualification. Stop when the idea is complete.
Extension Is Structured Depth
Use the Secondary 2 Essential 100 to supply precise concepts, then use reason, example, consequence and qualification to expand them. A good longer answer is not longer because it contains more sentences. It is longer because each sentence adds a new layer of meaning.
