Relay fidelity is the degree to which the meaning, uncertainty, source, scope and intended action of a message survive as it passes through intermediaries.

Every relay can compress, reinterpret or reframe a message. The first person may report uncertainty; the second may convert it into confidence. For consequential messages, preserve access to:
- original wording;
- source identity;
- date/time;
- context;
- attachments or evidence;
- later clarifications.
A summary can then sit beside the source rather than silently replacing it.
Uncertainty Must Survive the Relay

These are not stylistic differences.
They imply different actions.
A weak relay often strips uncertainty because certainty sounds cleaner.

The problem has shifted from interface design to user capability.
That reframing may be correct.
But it should be marked as interpretation, not silently presented as the original observation.
Direct Access Is Sometimes the Best Relay
If nuance is high and consequence is large, the best intermediary action may be:

Good relay design knows when not to relay.
AI Can Add Another Relay Layer
An AI summary may be useful for compression.
For consequential use, preserve:

- original text or evidence;
