A student gives an answer that is almost there.
Not wrong.
Not yet clear.
“Because the bigger one sort of pulls it more.”
The teacher has several choices.
They can replace the answer:
“What you mean is that the greater gravitational force produces a larger acceleration.”
They can reject it:
“That is too vague. Use the correct terminology.”
They can ask the student to try again and hope the language arrives.
Or they can revoice.
“So you’re saying the larger mass changes the gravitational interaction, and that gives us a different force. Is that what you mean?”
The student can say yes.
Or no.
Or, importantly:
“Sort of—but I mean the force is bigger, not necessarily the acceleration.”
Now the idea has become more precise without being silently transferred from the student to the teacher.

The key is that the restatement remains provisional and attributed.
“So you’re saying…?” “Have I got your idea right?” “Let me see if I can restate that.” “Amira’s point seems to be… Amira, is that fair?”
That small act of ratification matters.
Without it, revoicing can become intellectual theft.
The teacher says something more polished, the class accepts the teacher version, and the learner’s incomplete but productive idea disappears.
Used well, revoicing does the opposite.
It protects ownership while increasing precision.

If you only have a minute, keep this:
- Revoicing is a provisional restatement of a learner’s idea, usually with attribution and a chance for the learner to confirm, reject or refine it.
