Colugo Deck | Rifle Range Lookout, Colugo Trail and Walking Guide

Three learners review open books together at a classroom table, with stacks of textbooks, stationery and a whiteboard in the bright room.

Colugo Deck is the lookout reached by Colugo Trail in Rifle Range Nature Park. NParks describes the trail as a steep hike, gives its length as 582m and says the viewing point rises 31m above the ground overlooking Quarry Wetland.

Those measurements describe the named trail and viewpoint, not the total journey from an MRT station and back. Plan the approach, climb, descent and exit together. Rifle Range Nature Park opens from 7am to 7pm; check current maps and notices before travelling.

The deck is an optional climb, not a requirement for enjoying Rifle Range. If your group prefers a lower-level wetland visit, choose that deliberately. A good outing matches the route to the people, rather than making everyone match the photograph.

SECTION 1 OF 5

1. Choose the climb for its terrain

A short published distance can still involve a demanding ascent. Use NParks’ description of a steep hike when deciding whether this is suitable for your group.

Ask everyone about the climb and return before you set off. If the deck is not a comfortable choice, a shorter visit elsewhere in the park remains worthwhile.

Do not promise a universal completion time. Pauses, the route you use to reach the trail and individual walking pace all affect the visit.

2. Find the trail on the official map

Start from the Rifle Range visitor page and its park map. Locate Colugo Trail, your chosen entrance and the exit you will use afterwards.

Our Rifle Range visitor guide covers the wider park. The trail-specific plan still needs to be clear before adding other stops.

Do not navigate solely from a saved image of the deck. A viewpoint photo can show the destination without explaining the route to it.

SECTION 3 OF 5

3. Keep the accessible wetland option distinct

NParks identifies a 700m barrier-free route between the Visitor Pavilion and Quarry Wetland. That access description is not a statement that the Colugo Deck climb is barrier-free.

Our accessible-route guide makes the distinction explicit. Confirm the actual approach if step-free access is essential.

A group can choose the wetland instead of the deck without losing the purpose of the visit. Decide that together rather than expecting someone to wait alone while others climb.

4. Enjoy the lookout as a shared space

Stay within the signed visitor area and do not climb rails or leave the trail for a different camera angle. Give other visitors room to pass and enjoy the view.

Take photographs without crowding a path or pressuring anyone into a position they dislike. A simple view is enough.

For a light observation activity, compare the shape of the wetland seen from above with what you noticed at ground level. The change in perspective can be interesting without adding another destination.

SECTION 5 OF 5

5. Leave enough time for the return

The visit is not complete when you reach the deck. Allow time and energy to descend, find the exit and reach transport before the park closes.

NParks advises against entering forested areas during and immediately after bad weather. Check the current forecast and shorten or postpone the plan when conditions change.

Rifle Range prohibits pets and cycling. Keep this as a walking visit, not a detour within an unrestricted dog walk or bicycle route.

The useful finish is one where everyone returns comfortably. A viewpoint should add enjoyment, not turn the remainder of the day into a race.
