Banyan and Gaharu Trails: Rifle Range Walks from Jalan Kampong Chantek

Three students reviewing open textbooks, notes and stationery together at a classroom table.

Banyan and Gaharu offer a different Rifle Range outing from a boardwalk-focused visit. Choose these trails when your group wants to walk through forest and is comfortable planning around a less uniform walking surface.

NParks describes parallel dirt-and-stone trails beginning at Gaharu Entrance on Jalan Kampong Chantek. Its listed lengths are 647m for Banyan and 826m for Gaharu.

The useful decision is which route suits today’s group and how you will get back. Our Rifle Range park guide gives the wider neighbourhood context.

SECTION 1 OF 5

1. Choose the trail before choosing the pace

Our suggestion is to choose one named trail as the core of the visit. Use the map to identify its connections and an exit that works for your transport arrangements.

A shorter distance does not automatically make a route easier for every walker. Consider footing, weather, mobility and how much energy the group wants to spend before adding anything else.

2. Use Gaharu Entrance as a precise landmark

Save the official map and identify the entrance by name. An address search that only names Rifle Range Nature Park may point you towards a different part of the park.

Work out the approach separately from the forest walk. If arriving by car or a booked ride, agree on a suitable legal drop-off or collection point rather than assuming the trail entrance provides parking.

3. Compare the published trail lengths

The official trail page also identifies a natural freshwater stream along Banyan. Keep it as a place to observe from the designated route.

These individual lengths do not establish a complete loop distance. Do not simply add them and assume that sum includes every connecting path, approach or return journey.

4. Prepare for forest footing

Our practical recommendation is footwear with dependable grip and a pace that allows everyone to place their feet carefully. Allow extra time when members of the group have different walking speeds.

NParks asks visitors to stay on marked trails and not wade in streams. Follow current signs if they differ from your saved route, and avoid entering forest during or immediately after bad weather.

5. Keep the finish straightforward

Rifle Range’s published hours are 7am–7pm. Set a turnaround point early enough to leave the park comfortably within its opening hours.

Before extending the walk, check your water, daylight and transport plan. If the group would prefer a boardwalk-focused outing next time, keep that as a separate visit instead of trying to cover the entire park today.
