How Full Subject Based Banding Works | IGCSE 2027 Exam Timetable vs Singapore SEC: June, November and Results Dates

When are IGCSE exams in 2027, and when will Singapore SEC students sit their papers? Cambridge IGCSE has June and November examination series, with results normally issued in August and the following January respectively. Singapore’s first Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate (SEC) examinations take place in 2027: written English Language and Mother Tongue Languages are scheduled for September, other written subjects for October to November, and non-written components such as oral, listening and Science practical assessments before the relevant written examinations. SEC results are expected in January 2028. These are different examination calendars, not two versions of the same timetable.

Parents looking for the “IGCSE 2027 timetable Singapore”, “SEC 2027 exam dates”, “IGCSE results 2027” or “when is the G3 exam?” are usually trying to solve a real planning problem: avoid missed entries, organise travel, choose a revision schedule, or find out when a certificate will be available for post-secondary admission. This guide gives the confirmed pattern, explains what remains to be checked with schools, and shows how to build a safe calendar without inventing individual paper dates.

The answer at a glance

Route Written examination window Usual result timing
Cambridge IGCSE June 2027 series June-series schedule: confirm the dated subject timetable and administrative zone August 2027
Cambridge IGCSE November 2027 series November-series schedule: confirm the dated subject timetable and administrative zone January 2028
Singapore SEC 2027 English and Mother Tongue September 2027 January 2028
Singapore SEC 2027 other written subjects October–November 2027 January 2028
Singapore SEC non-written components Before relevant written examinations, according to official scheduling Included in the eventual SEC result

Important: The table describes confirmed broad windows and the usual Cambridge result months, not a promise about the day or start time of any paper. For Cambridge IGCSE, the centre must identify its administrative zone and the latest final timetable. For SEC, SEAB’s official updates and the candidate’s school supply the detailed schedule. Links to both authorities appear below.

Why Full SBB, SEC and IGCSE cannot share one examination calendar

Full Subject-Based Banding (Full SBB) is Singapore’s mainstream secondary-school subject-level arrangement. Students can offer subjects at G1, G2 and G3 under the relevant school and eligibility rules. Beginning with the 2027 graduating cohort, those national examination subjects are reported on the Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate. SEAB says there is no change to the overall examination standards merely because the certificates have been consolidated.

Cambridge IGCSE is an international qualification with its own syllabus codes, component timetables and administrative zones. It is commonly offered in international-school pathways, but it is not a Full SBB subject-level examination. The Cambridge connection shared by the qualifications does not make their paper schedules, syllabus codes or application channels interchangeable.

A student can have G3 Mathematics and G2 English on the national pathway. The exam calendar still comes from SEAB’s SEC arrangements. An international-school student might take Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 and Cambridge IGCSE English First Language 0500; the centre’s Cambridge timetable applies. If a student studies two pathways for a special reason, they must check each independently rather than assuming clashes will be automatically avoided.

Start with IGCSE vs Singapore O-Level and SEC: What Is Different? if the qualification itself remains unclear.

How the Cambridge IGCSE June 2027 series works

Cambridge International runs a June examination series and publishes an official timetable organised by administrative zone. A school in one zone must not use the paper dates shown for another zone. The timetable lists papers and components with sessions, while a centre must tell candidates the exact reporting and examination arrangements that apply locally.

Cambridge explains that its provisional June timetable is normally published in May of the preceding year, with the final version scheduled for October of the preceding year. For June 2027 this means the final-timetable publication cycle is in 2026. Even after a timetable has been released, parents should consult the current official version rather than an image saved months earlier. The centre’s written candidate instructions remain essential.

A June-series student typically receives Cambridge IGCSE results in August of the same year. The precise release date is announced by Cambridge separately. A family planning a school transfer should therefore ask whether the receiving school needs final results, a predicted grade, or some other evidence by its own deadline. The fact that IGCSE results normally arrive in August does not automatically align them with Singapore national school admission cycles.

How the Cambridge IGCSE November 2027 series works

The November series is a separate Cambridge examination session. Cambridge normally publishes the provisional timetable in October of the preceding year and the final timetable in March of the examination year. For the November 2027 series, families should verify that they have the final 2027 version appropriate to their centre, not the November 2026 document or a provisional draft.

Cambridge says November-series IGCSE results are issued the following January. A student sitting examinations in November 2027 should therefore plan around a January 2028 result, with the actual day and collection procedure to be confirmed by the awarding body and entering centre. If an application requires results earlier, ask the receiving institution directly whether a provisional record is acceptable; do not claim a certificate is already available.

Cambridge also requires centres to follow its Key Time and full-centre-supervision rules to maintain exam security. Some candidates may need to remain supervised during a clash. Students must not improvise a different sitting time based on social-media timetables.

The Singapore SEC 2027 examination calendar

SEAB’s official SEC page sets out the transition from separate GCE N(T), N(A) and O-Level examinations to the single SEC for the first graduating cohort in 2027. The written examinations for English Language and Mother Tongue Languages are scheduled in September. Other written subjects begin in October and continue into November. Non-written assessments, including oral, listening comprehension and Science practical examinations where applicable, are scheduled ahead of the written examinations. This approach retains important examination standards while changing how the overall calendar is organised.

SEAB has stated that there is one written sitting a year for Mother Tongue at G1, G2, G3 and Higher Mother Tongue at G3. Families familiar with previous national Mother Tongue arrangements should pay particular attention to this consolidation: a remembered two-sitting pattern is not a safe guide to SEC 2027. There will be a common SEC results release in January of the following year, so for the first cohort that means January 2028.

What SEAB does not give parents through a general month-level announcement is a licence to invent the date of English Paper 1, a particular Science practical or a G2 Mathematics paper. Use the detailed published timetable when released and confirm school reporting times. Keep the examination timetable in its own folder rather than relying on an online summary without a version date.

Why the year of examination matters more than the year a book was bought

Cambridge uses the examination year to identify which version of a syllabus applies. Its own guidance says a student sitting in 2027 uses the 2027 syllabus; a student sitting in 2028 uses the syllabus that applies to 2028. A coursebook bought in 2025 can still be valuable for conceptual practice, but it does not replace the current syllabus’s subject content, entry options or examination requirements.

For example, Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 introduced a dedicated non-calculator assessment in the 2025–2027 syllabus at both Core and Extended tiers. A student who uses only older calculator-permitted paper structures can prepare for the wrong conditions. The calendar matters, but the syllabus year and paper option matter equally.

Similarly, a Singapore national student preparing for SEC 2027 should use SEAB’s 2027 K-code syllabus, not automatically follow an old GCE O-Level sheet because it looks familiar. The content may overlap substantially, but the actual entry code and examination timetable must come from the national authority.

The four timing mistakes that make an otherwise good plan fail

1. Reading the wrong Cambridge administrative zone

Cambridge has six administrative zones and publishes separate timetables. A paper printed with the correct syllabus code can still show the wrong date or session for a family’s centre if it comes from the wrong zone. Ask the centre to identify the relevant zone and examination series. Do not assume that a friend studying in another country has the same timetable.

2. Confusing a provisional timetable with the final timetable

Cambridge uses a provisional stage so schools can report important conflicts, and later releases a final version. Families should not book non-refundable travel around a provisional paper date. The final timetable can also receive occasional updates; centres should provide candidates with the latest examination instructions.

3. Forgetting non-written assessments

An oral test, listening component, practical examination, coursework deadline or other assessment obligation can occur outside a written-paper period. A parent who marks only November on a family calendar may still miss an essential deadline months earlier. Ask for all components and centre submission windows.

4. Assuming results arrive before a receiving institution’s deadline

Results availability and application closing dates are independent facts. For example, an IGCSE November 2027 candidate may normally receive results in January 2028, but a destination may have an earlier admissions deadline. Confirm what the institution accepts at each stage. Do not turn an expected result month into a guaranteed application eligibility claim.

Worked family example: choosing revision and travel dates

Imagine two siblings. The older child follows Singapore’s SEC G3 Mathematics pathway in 2027. The younger child studies Cambridge IGCSE in a school entering the November 2027 series. The family is considering a holiday in October and has also seen a social-media chart claiming that “all Cambridge exams are in November”.

That chart is inadequate. The SEC student’s main Mathematics paper may be within the October–November national written examination window, but the exact date depends on the published national timetable. The IGCSE student’s individual paper dates depend on the Cambridge November series, syllabus component and administrative zone. There may also be earlier oral or practical components. Neither child’s holiday safety can be established from an examination month alone.

The safe method is to collect both final timetables, list every paper and component, add school or centre arrival instructions and allow time for illness, travel and revision recovery. If details are not yet final, the family should avoid assuming the date is free. This is less convenient than a guessed schedule but much less likely to create a costly mistake.

An effective revision calendar starts from the exam, not the textbook

Once the actual timetable is confirmed, work backwards. First identify the subject’s final assessment objectives and paper format. Then check prerequisite knowledge. In Mathematics, a pupil might need fractions, algebra and representation of word problems. In English, the bottleneck might be inference or sustained writing. In Science, it might be an unclear model of variables or inability to translate evidence into an explanation.

Build short cycles of teaching, retrieval, feedback and re-testing. Use past papers only when the learner understands the necessary ideas; otherwise they may learn the appearance of a question without the underlying structure. Mix chapters to force method choice. Leave space for sleep, exercise and ordinary schoolwork.

Do not load every evening with extra practice merely because the final examination date is closer. A learner who forgets after several days needs spaced retrieval; a learner who knows a concept but misreads command words needs language and problem-interpretation practice; a learner who panics under time limits needs carefully staged timed attempts, not endless untimed worksheets.

Ask one simple question each week: “What can the student do independently now that they could not do last week?” The calendar measures time; the answer measures learning.

Results release: what happens next?

Cambridge states that June-series results are normally issued in August and November-series results in January. Schools or centres tell candidates how to collect the results, sometimes through a secure online service. The precise date can be updated by the awarding body. A statement of results and an eventual certificate may arrive through different administrative steps; ask the entering centre what evidence it can provide and when.

For Singapore SEC, SEAB says the first graduating cohort will have a common result release in January 2028. Following the result, families need to use the post-secondary admissions procedure that applies to the national qualification and year. Do not substitute the older O-Level or N-Level calendar simply because a website still lists those labels.

For international-qualification holders, the receiving institution’s application requirements govern the next step. Singapore Polytechnic, for example, has a Direct Admissions Exercise route for specified international qualifications, but course eligibility, windows and vacancies must be checked in the relevant year. Read IGCSE to JC, Polytechnic or IB before assuming that certificates enter a single common process.

A ten-field examination calendar parents can actually use

  1. Examining body: Cambridge International, Pearson Edexcel, or SEAB SEC.
  2. Qualification: Cambridge IGCSE, Edexcel International GCSE or Singapore SEC.
  3. Subject and code: such as Cambridge Mathematics 0580, or a 2027 SEC K-code.
  4. Examination year and series: June/November for Cambridge, national SEC 2027 for the Singapore route.
  5. Administrative zone or centre: especially important for Cambridge paper dates.
  6. Component: written, oral, listening, practical, coursework or speaking where applicable.
  7. Final date and session: copy only from the current official timetable or authorised centre notice.
  8. Reporting or submission deadline: the time to arrive or submit work may differ from the published paper start.
  9. Result expectation: note the official month and update when the precise date is announced.
  10. Next-stage deadline: record the admission institution’s required evidence and application closing date.

Write a source link and the date checked beside each entry. If the date is unconfirmed, put “pending official timetable” rather than a fabricated calendar day.

Frequently asked questions

Are Cambridge IGCSE examinations only in November?

No. Cambridge runs June and November series. The actual availability of subjects and components must be checked for the centre and qualification.

When are June 2027 Cambridge IGCSE results?

Cambridge normally issues June-series IGCSE results in August of the same year. Confirm the exact 2027 date on Cambridge’s results page and through the school.

When are November 2027 Cambridge IGCSE results?

Normally January 2028. The precise date and release arrangements depend on Cambridge’s later announcement.

Are SEC 2027 English and Mother Tongue written papers in September?

Yes. SEAB’s published SEC schedule places the written English Language and Mother Tongue examinations in September each year beginning with the SEC.

When will SEC 2027 results be out?

SEAB states that the common SEC results release is in January of the following year, so January 2028 for the first graduating cohort.

Will the IGCSE and SEC results be released on the same day?

Do not assume so. The two authorities announce results independently.

Can I use an IGCSE UK timetable for a Singapore centre?

Not without checking. Cambridge uses administrative-zone-specific final timetables; the centre must confirm the correct one.

What should a parent do if the school has not yet issued an individual timetable?

Ask the examinations officer which published authority timetable applies and when detailed candidate instructions will be provided. Keep provisional dates clearly labelled until confirmed.
