If you need to amend a GCE special consideration application, act before the application deadline. SEAB tells school candidates to ask their teacher for help with an amendment. Private candidates can add supporting documents to an existing application by the deadline, but SEAB does not allow them to make other changes to that application.
If you are a private candidate and need to request additional special consideration, SEAB directs you to make a separate new application. Decide whether you are supplying evidence for the existing request or seeking consideration for something additional.
- Find the existing application and identify what needs changing.
- Use the school, portal or centre route that applies to you.
- Submit by the applicable deadline.
- Check that additional documents can be opened.
For school candidates
Speak to the teacher handling the application and explain the correction or new information. Give the subject and paper code, examination date and any application reference. SEAB says to request the amendment by the deadline, including when the paper was taken at a centralised examination centre.
Ask your teacher when the school needs the information so it can act on time. Keep the original request and the amended details distinct so everyone can see what changed.

For private candidates
If you applied through the Candidates Portal, follow its instructions for adding documents to the existing application. If you applied through your centre coordinator, work through that coordinator. SEAB asks candidates to submit documents without password encryption.
For example, if a supporting document becomes available before the deadline, add it to the relevant request through the official route. If another paper is affected and you need additional consideration, follow SEAB’s instruction to submit a separate new application.

Check the deadline for the affected paper
SEAB’s general GCE guidance says applications and supporting information must reach it within three working days after the affected paper. Check the exact deadline with the school, centre or SEAB if you are uncertain. For initial applications, use the GCE special consideration guide.
