If you want to withdraw from a Singapore-Cambridge GCE examination as a private candidate, check the SEAB Candidates Portal for the applicable withdrawal deadline and the separate refund conditions. In the 2026 GCE exercise, SEAB listed 1 September at 11 pm as the final withdrawal deadline and 18 June at 11 pm for the published refund routes. Both dates have passed. Use the dates for your own examination year when planning a later request.
Check the exact subjects covered by the withdrawal and whether you have sat any component. Ask what happens to results for withdrawn entries, particularly if a component was already taken or a result was released. If an illness or unexpected event has just affected a paper, read the separate Special Consideration instructions promptly.
- Identify the examination and each subject you intend to withdraw from.
- Check both the final withdrawal deadline and any earlier refund window.
- Confirm how previous components or results may be affected.
- Submit the request and required evidence through the official route.
- Keep the approval and check any refund separately.
Separate withdrawal from refund eligibility
The withdrawal deadline determines whether SEAB will consider the request. A different deadline and additional conditions can apply to a refund. For 2026, SEAB said a 50% subject-fee refund could be provided for requests by the stated June deadline if the candidate had not sat any component of the subjects concerned.
The 2026 guidance also described a full subject-fee refund for qualifying tertiary admission after registration. It required the request and supporting documents by the same June deadline and specified conditions on the acceptance letter and full-time course. SEAB listed late-registration and subject-amendment fees as non-refundable. Check the published rules for the relevant exercise and whether any charge you paid belongs to a refundable category.

Check what happens to the examination record
Write down what you registered for, which papers you have taken and any earlier results already released. SEAB’s private-candidate guidance warns that withdrawal can invalidate results for withdrawn examination entries, including results already released for mid-year examinations. If your request concerns only some subjects, confirm which entries are included before submitting.
SEAB also says that withdrawal requests after the published final deadline are not considered and candidates will receive an Absent grade for subjects they did not sit. Check the rules for your examination and ask SEAB about your exact record if anything is unclear. An exam-day medical issue may call for a different procedure and deadline.

Submit the request and monitor the result
Use the portal route SEAB specifies. Check the examination, subjects, reason and any supporting documents before submitting. If relying on tertiary admission, check that the acceptance document meets the requirements for the exercise. Save the request and check whether it has been approved.
If a refund is approved, keep the confirmation and check the amount against the fee categories. SEAB’s 2026 guidance gave an approximate one-month period after withdrawal approval for receipt of a refund. Use the official instructions for the applicable year and contact SEAB if an approved refund remains unclear.

Worked example
A private candidate receives a full-time tertiary offer after registering for GCE examinations. They check the date on the acceptance letter, confirm which subjects are covered by their intended withdrawal and look up the current refund conditions. They submit the required evidence and save the confirmation. They also ask what happens to an earlier component result before treating it as available for future use.
