Eco Lake or Symphony Lake? Which to Visit at Singapore Botanic Gardens

Singapore Botanic Gardens sign at Bukit Timah Gate, beside the entrance plaza.

Choose Eco Lake for a short stroll from Botanic Gardens MRT and Bukit Timah Gate. Choose Symphony Lake for Palm Valley and the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage. Both are inside Singapore Botanic Gardens, with a longer walk from Bukit Timah Gate to reach Symphony Lake.

If your group is meeting for a concert, share the stage name. If you have time for one quick stop near the station, share the Eco Lake pin or meet at Bukit Timah Gate. The lake names matter because the two destinations are in different parts of the Gardens.

  • Eco Lake is near the Bukit Timah end of the Gardens.
  • Symphony Lake is beside Palm Valley and the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage.
  • Use the official Gardens map to plan the walk between the two.
  • Check the event listing separately for any concert at the stage.

Eco Lake for a short walk from the MRT

Enter through Bukit Timah Gate, next to Botanic Gardens MRT. Use the map for Eco Lake and Eco Garden, which sit in the same part of the Gardens. Pick a spot by the lake to pause, then decide whether to continue to the plant collections or turn back towards the gate.

NParks describes the Eco Garden through plants with practical uses, including hardwoods, bamboo and spices. A simple way to explore with children is to choose one label and ask them what part of the plant people use. Move on when they are ready and keep the return path short if the visit is squeezed between other plans.

This is the easier choice when the group wants a quick outdoor break after arriving by train. If someone is joining later, agree to meet back at the gate or send the exact lake pin so they can walk in independently.

Symphony Lake for Palm Valley and the stage

Use Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage or Palm Valley as the destination for a concert or a walk in the central part of the Gardens. If you start at Bukit Timah Gate, budget time to walk beyond Eco Lake. Use the current NParks map to choose your route and check for path notices before the trip.

Palm Valley is a destination in its own right. The Gardens traces the collection to 1879 and describes hundreds of palm species there. On a day without a performance, you can still walk through the area and look for differences in leaf shapes, trunks and the way the palms are grouped.

When attending a performance, use the organiser’s listing for the start time and any entry arrangements. Decide how your group will find one another if someone arrives later. A named gate or landmark near the stage gives a clearer meeting point than a message saying only that you are by the lake.

How to visit both lakes in one outing

Start at Bukit Timah Gate and make Eco Lake your first stop. Continue towards Palm Valley and Symphony Lake after checking your position on the map. If you are starting with a concert, go directly to the stage and fit Eco Lake into the return only if time permits.

Before committing to both, choose where you will finish. Return to Bukit Timah Gate for Botanic Gardens MRT, or use the visitor map to plan another exit if it suits your onward trip. The destination and exit deserve separate pins, especially if you are arranging to meet a car.

If it starts raining or the group needs a rest, end the first part of the visit at Eco Lake and save Palm Valley for another day. If the stage is the reason for the outing, prioritise arrival time and leave the lakeside detour for afterwards.
