If you and a co-owner each applied for 50% Home Protection Scheme (HPS) cover and one application was rejected for health reasons, check the cover actually in force. CPF Board encourages the other co-owner to consider increasing their share to 100% of the outstanding loan in this situation. An increase is subject to approval and the applicant’s health.
Keep the requested shares, approved shares and repayment responsibilities on separate lines. Increasing one person’s approved cover can change how much of the loan is covered on an eligible claim for that insured person. It does not give cover to the co-owner whose application was rejected.
- Read the outcome for each applicant.
- Verify the current cover and effective dates.
- Check the outstanding loan and who pays each share.
- Ask CPF Board about the appropriate adjustment.
- Confirm the result before relying on the requested cover.

| Record | What to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Original application | Share requested for each person | Shows the household’s initial plan |
| CPF Board outcome | Approved share and effective date | Shows what is actually in force |
| Loan record | Outstanding amount and repayment split | Helps you understand the obligation |
| Adjustment request | Proposed share and confirmation status | Separates a request from an approved change |
Read CPF Board’s guidance on HPS shares and the official application and adjustment service. CPF Board may require information and a health declaration for an increase. Provide information through the official channels. Keep private medical details out of shared household records unless needed.

Worked example with one approved share
Two co-owners request 50% each. One receives approval at 50%, and the other is declined. The household records the approved share and contacts CPF Board to ask about increasing the insured co-owner’s share. Until approval is confirmed, the household plans using the existing record.
If an increase is approved, the household checks the effective date and asks what would happen if the insured co-owner made an eligible claim. It also asks what obligations would remain if something happened to the co-owner who is not insured under HPS. The answers help the household understand how the two situations differ.
