Polytechnic Medical Check for International Students: What to Book and Submit

Three learners review open books together at a classroom table, with stacks of textbooks, stationery and a whiteboard in the bright room.

If your polytechnic asks you to complete a medical examination before enrolment, open the instructions for your course and intake before booking an appointment. Singapore Polytechnic says international students enrolling there must have a pre-enrolment medical examination conducted by a medical practitioner registered in Singapore. Check the requirements at your own polytechnic, including any course-specific tests, who may conduct them and how the results are submitted.

List the school’s form, tests, provider requirements and due date together. If you also have medical instructions for Student’s Pass formalities, check them separately and ask whether any paperwork can be used for both purposes. Confirm that with the relevant office before relying on one appointment or report.

  • Download the current form from your polytechnic’s enrolment instructions.
  • Check who may conduct the examination and what your course requires.
  • Confirm who submits the completed report and by when.
  • Check any Student’s Pass medical instructions separately.
  • Ask early if travel or a pending result could delay submission.

Read the instructions for your own course

Open the offer and enrolment instructions and find the section on health or medical requirements. Confirm your intake, exact diploma and applicant category. A general rule for international students and a test required for a particular course can both apply. Temasek Polytechnic publishes a course-specific medical requirements document. Singapore Polytechnic directs students to its enrolment steps for details of colour vision testing or medical examination.

Write down the form name, the test requirements stated for your course and where the institution wants the result. If you see two versions of a form, ask which one applies. Use the current institutional instructions before choosing a clinic or sending medical information.

Confirm the appointment and expected turnaround

Tell the clinic which form you have and ask whether it can complete the required parts. If your institution specifies a Singapore-registered practitioner or another condition, check that the provider meets it. Ask what identification and forms you should bring and when the final report is likely to be available.

Put the appointment date and submission deadline on separate calendar lines. If the result will take several days, allow time to check that the form is complete. Ask the institution how it wants to receive the report. It may ask the student or provider to submit through a specified channel. Keep a record of submission while protecting your medical information.

Check whether immigration instructions add a separate task

If the Student’s Pass instructions ask for medical evidence, compare the issuer, form, required tests and submission route with the school’s instructions. Ask each office about its own requirement where the documents are unclear. A school can confirm what it accepts for enrolment, while ICA’s instructions govern the immigration formalities.

If you are overseas and will reach Singapore close to the deadline, give the polytechnic your arrival date and ask which steps can be started beforehand. If the school requires a locally registered practitioner, ask how to plan the appointment after arrival and what to do if the report cannot be ready by the stated date.

Worked example

A student gets a polytechnic offer and sees an enrolment examination and a separate set of Student’s Pass instructions. They place both documents side by side and check which report each office wants. They confirm the school’s provider requirement before booking, ask the clinic when the report will be ready and keep the school’s submission deadline visible.

The student learns that the clinic can complete the school form on the appointment date but that another result takes longer. They tell the polytechnic the expected date and follow its instructions for the deadline. Their calendar tracks the school submission and the immigration paperwork separately.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a report from my usual doctor overseas?

Check the current provider requirements. Singapore Polytechnic says its pre-enrolment medical examination for international students must be conducted by a Singapore-registered practitioner. Ask your own institution what it accepts.

Does every diploma require the same tests?

Use the instructions for your course and intake. Ask the institution if the general medical form and a course-specific requirement appear to overlap.

What if my report will arrive after the deadline?

Contact the school before the deadline. Give the scheduled appointment, expected report date and any parts you can complete already. Follow the instructions the institution confirms.
