Locate the Sun Garden before choosing an entrance

The NParks Heritage Tree Register identifies a monkey pot tree between Sun Garden and Dell Lane. Use the lane and the garden name as map landmarks. If meeting others, agree whether to meet at the collection or at a gate first.

The two MRT stations serve different ends of the grounds. If you also plan to see another attraction, check its location before deciding whether to start from Napier or Botanic Gardens MRT.

Look closely at how the plants are built

Choose two plants and compare the shapes of their leaves and stems. Some succulents store water in thick tissues. A plant can also have spines, but use its label to find out what it is rather than identifying it from the spines alone.

For a quick activity with children, sketch one rounded form and one upright form. Write the name from each label and mark the feature that made the plants easy to tell apart. Observe from the path and leave the plants where they are.

Compare the Sun Garden with another collection

NParks highlights the Sun Garden, Frangipani Garden and Hoya House together in its collection notes. Pick a second stop if you have time and compare how differently the plants grow. Check Hoya House’s separate hours if it is part of your route.

If you have time for only one stop, spend a few minutes looking at several plant labels. Choose your return gate before walking deeper into the Gardens.
