Where to Go During the Singapore City Gallery Closure: Two Planning Exhibitions

View of the Marina Bay financial district skyscrapers from the Marina Bay Sands boardwalk.

If Singapore City Gallery is partly or fully closed during your trip, choose the replacement by subject. Visit HDB LIVINGSPACE in Toa Payoh for public housing and town design. Visit the Sustainable Singapore Gallery at Marina Barrage for water, flood management and sustainability. Each explains a different part of how Singapore works.

URA has announced partial closure of Singapore City Gallery from 1 December 2026 to 30 April 2027, then full closure from 1 May 2027 as work continues. It expects a refreshed gallery in the fourth quarter of 2027. Check its visitor page for the latest status and the exhibits available during the partial closure. URA’s Singapore City Gallery visit planner

  • Check which closure phase falls on your travel date.
  • Choose public housing at Toa Payoh or water and sustainability at Marina Barrage.
  • Check the alternative’s day and hours independently.
  • Book ahead if your group size or choice of tour requires it.
  • Pair the visit with one nearby stop that illustrates what you saw.

Decide whether to keep the Maxwell Road stop

When operating normally, the City Gallery at 45 Maxwell Road lists free admission from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Saturday, with Sunday and public-holiday closures. Partial closure can affect specific areas. If the large city model or another particular exhibit is the reason for your visit, confirm that it is accessible during the works.

During full closure, keep a Chinatown or Maxwell outing if the area itself interests you. Move the gallery visit to another day or place. If your trip is around the expected reopening, use an announced date before building a day around it. A target quarter helps with planning but does not tell you which day you can visit. Go to HDB LIVINGSPACE for homes and neighbourhoods

HDB’s exhibition is at Basement 1 of HDB Hub, 480 Toa Payoh Lorong 6. HDB directs visitors to Toa Payoh MRT Exit A. It lists free admission, Monday to Saturday from 8.30 am to 5 pm, with Sunday and public-holiday closures. Groups of 10 or more should book ahead. The displays are designed for self-guided visits. Look for an exhibit about what goes into a town beyond the flats. Then take a short walk around the public town centre and notice where transport, shops and gathering spaces sit in relation to one another. That gives you a concrete example of the housing and community ideas you saw inside.

Go to Marina Barrage for water and the environment

The Sustainable Singapore Gallery sits at Marina Barrage. PUB lists hours of 9 am to 6 pm, with a daily closure from noon to 1 pm and a full closure on Tuesdays. It encourages booking guided tours ahead, with walk-in tour requests subject to availability. The last guided tour is listed at 5 pm. PUB gallery and tour information

After the gallery, if the weather suits, look at the reservoir and the barrage from public areas. Ask what the infrastructure has to do when rain falls heavily and what changes with the tide. Pick the exhibition first if it is the main reason you are going. The outdoor public spaces and the gallery follow different schedules. Marina Barrage visitor information
