Drift Corridor — Safe Operating Boundaries (eduKateOS Canonical Definition)

A drift corridor is the acceptable range of performance variance where a system is still safe, stable, and correctable.

In eduKateOS, you do not try to eliminate variance. You define the corridor, monitor it, and repair the system when it moves outside the corridor.

This is how Phase 3 prevents collapse.

What a Drift Corridor Means

A drift corridor is a boundary definition:

• The system is allowed to fluctuate inside the corridor
• The system must be corrected if it exits the corridor
• The corridor creates early warning before Phase 0

Think of it as a “tolerance band” for performance and reliability.

Why You Need a Drift Corridor

Without a corridor:

• People argue emotionally about whether “it’s bad”
• Problems are only addressed after collapse
• Maintenance becomes inconsistent
• The system slowly degrades without detection

A corridor turns ambiguity into measurable control.

What Defines the Corridor

The corridor is defined by:

• Accuracy thresholds (error rates)
• Speed thresholds (time-to-complete)
• Consistency (repeatability across days)
• Load tolerance (performance under stress)
• Quality checks (standards, rubrics, safety limits)

Corridors must match the use case. A hospital corridor differs from an exam corridor, but the principle is identical.

Corridor Exit Rules

If the system exits the corridor, you do not “try harder.” You run a defined response:

• If minor and early: Phase 3 correction (micro-repair)
• If repeated: Phase 1 diagnostics (failure mode isolation)
• If severe: Phase 0 stabilisation first

Canonical Boundary Rule

If you do not define a drift corridor, you cannot claim Phase 3 drift control.
Undefined boundaries guarantee delayed reaction and eventual collapse.
