English OS — One-Page Diagnostic (5-Minute Checklist) + First-Week Plan

Slug: /english-os-one-page-diagnostic/
Purpose: A quick checklist that outputs:

  1. Dominant Engine Leak (Vocabulary / Comprehension / Composition)
  2. Exact first-week plan (10 / 20 / 40 min options)

H1: English OS One-Page Diagnostic — Find the Leak, Fix the Leak

Canonical Rule (LOCK)

Do not “practice more”.
Diagnose the dominant leak → apply smallest repair loop → re-test.

Part 1 — 5-Minute Diagnostic Checklist

Step A — Vocabulary Quick Test (60 seconds)

Pick 5 words from a recent passage/topic.

For each word:

  • define it in 1 simple sentence
  • use it in 1 natural sentence

Score:

  • RT (recall time): _ / _ / _ / _ / __
  • UC (usage correct): Y/N each

Decision:

If ≥3 words have RT > 2s OR UC fails often
→ Dominant Engine = Vocabulary OS

Step B — Comprehension Stability Test (2 minutes)

Take 1 short unseen paragraph + 2 questions.

Answer quickly. Then re-read the paragraph and answer again.

Decision:

If answers change after re-read (or confidence swings)
→ Dominant Engine = Comprehension OS

Tag the dominant wrong-answer type:

  • MISREAD
  • VOCAB_GAP
  • OVER_INFER
  • NO_EVIDENCE
  • WRONG_SCOPE
  • TIME_RUSH

Step C — Composition Control Test (2 minutes)

Give a simple prompt and set a 10-minute timer.

Check 3 things:

  • StartLatency (time to first sentence): __ minutes
  • Finish? (Y/N)
  • Repetition/basic words? (Y/N)

Decision:

If StartLatency > 2 min OR cannot finish OR freezes
→ Dominant Engine = Composition OS

Part 2 — Output: Your Diagnostic Result (Circle One)

Dominant Engine Leak

  • Vocabulary OS (P1/P2 retrieval)
  • Comprehension OS (unstable meaning extraction)
  • Composition OS (time + structure control)

Part 3 — First-Week Plan (Choose 10 / 20 / 40 minutes)

If Dominant Engine = Vocabulary OS

10 min/day (minimum)

VOCAB_10 {
5 min: 3-recall drill (5 words)
3 min: 2-sentence anchor (1 word)
2 min: speak-then-write (1 sentence)
}

20 min/day (fast)

VOCAB_20 {
8 min: collocation bank (5 items)
10 min: timed paragraph (inject 6 upgrades)
2 min: rewrite worst sentence
}

40 min/day (high acceleration)

VOCAB_40 {
10 min: input (story/article)
12 min: timed paragraph with targets
12 min: feedback + rewrite weakest paragraph
6 min: spaced review + recycle list
}

Re-test on Day 7: RT ≤2s + UC correct + targets appear in timed writing.

If Dominant Engine = Comprehension OS

10 min/day

COMP_10 {
6 min: 1 short unseen + answer
4 min: evidence routine (underline lines + rewrite answer)
}

20 min/day

COMP_20 {
10 min: unseen set
6 min: wrong-answer tagging (choose dominant tag)
4 min: repair drill for that tag
}

40 min/day

COMP_40 {
20 min: full unseen set
10 min: evidence + scope control check
10 min: dominant tag repair drill + reattempt questions
}

Re-test on Day 7: answers stable after re-read + evidence lines always found.

If Dominant Engine = Composition OS

10 min/day

COMP0_10 {
2 min: 5-box mini-plan
6 min: timed micro paragraph
2 min: rewrite weakest sentence
}

20 min/day

COMP0_20 {
3 min: 5-box plan
12 min: timed paragraph (inject 6 upgrades)
5 min: rewrite weakest paragraph
}

40 min/day

COMP0_40 {
4 min: plan
25 min: timed writing (full piece or 2 paragraphs)
11 min: checklist + rewrite weakest paragraph
}

Re-test on Day 7: StartLatency <2 min + FinishRate improves + fewer freeze events.

Part 4 — Universal Rules (Non-Negotiable)

RULES {
1) Timer ON for at least 2 sessions/week
2) Rewrite weakest paragraph every writing session
3) Track one dominant tag only (don’t fix everything at once)
4) Re-test weekly (measure progress)
}
