Production is the system that creates:

Constraint OS is the system of hard limits:
- demographics
- energy
- resources
- maintenance burden
- ecological ceilings
- fiscal ceilings
The interface is the reality check:
Production can delay constraints if it creates surplus and buffers.
Constraints can crush production if load rises faster than repair.
What Production OS Contributes to Constraint OS
Production affects constraints in three ways:
1) Surplus Creation (Repair Fuel)
Constraints become dangerous when repair is underfunded.
Production creates the surplus that funds:
- maintenance
- infrastructure upgrades
- resilience buffers
- healthcare and human renewal
- innovation
If surplus falls, constraints become visible and painful.
2) Efficiency (Constraint Compression)
High production efficiency reduces constraint load per unit output.
Efficiency can:
- reduce energy per output
- reduce land and resource load
- reduce waste
- reduce time cost
So production can “compress” constraints by doing more with less.
3) Resilience Buffers (Shock Absorption)
Production can build buffers:
- reserves
- redundancy
- diversified supply chains
- spare capacity
Buffers reduce the chance that constraints turn into cascades.
What Constraint OS Does to Production OS
Constraints push back on production through:
1) Rising Maintenance Burden
As systems age, more production is spent just maintaining, not improving.
2) Demographic Load
Fewer workers supporting more dependents reduces production capacity and surplus.
3) Energy and Resource Limits
If energy or resources tighten, production costs rise and output falls.
4) Ecological Limits

This interface is broken when:
- production is consumed by maintenance
- surplus disappears
- buffers thin out
- shocks cascade
- constraints compound faster than repair
This is the classic point where civilisations become brittle.
The Stability Inequality (The Core Rule)
Civilisation stability depends on:
surplus + buffers + efficiency ≥ constraint load growth
When the left side weakens, constraints dominate.

Production OS creates the surplus and buffers needed to manage Constraint OS.
Constraint OS defines the ceilings that production must respect.
If constraints rise faster than production’s repair fuel, civilisation drifts toward CDI.
