Mind OS Sensor: Noise Load (Canonical)

Noise Load measures how much irrelevant stimulus, stress, and distraction the mind is carrying.

Noise is not only social media.

Noise includes:

Unresolved stress
Information overload
Constant notifications
Too many tasks open
Unclear priorities
Chronic fatigue

High noise load reduces attention stability and judgement quality.

What This Sensor Measures

Noise Load measures:

Interrupt frequency
Context switching volume
Mental clutter (open loops)
Stress intrusion into thinking
Recovery time after interruptions

How to Read This Sensor

Healthy signal

You can think clearly
Interruptions are limited
You can focus without mental buzzing
You can complete tasks without constant switching
You feel calmer and more deliberate

Danger signal

Constant urge to check phone or messages
You cannot sit still with one task
You feel mentally crowded
You forget what you were doing
You feel rushed even with no deadlines

Thresholds

Level 1: Low noise

Clear thinking, low interruption, strong focus

Level 2: Mild noise

Occasional clutter, manageable

Level 3: High noise

Frequent switching, reduced deep work

Level 4: Severe noise

Chronic distraction, stress dominates attention

Level 5: Overload

Mind becomes reactive, learning and repair collapse

Minimum Viable Test

Run one daily 15-minute quiet block.

If you cannot do it for 5 out of 7 days, noise load is high and must be reduced before scaling learning.

Repair Actions

One-screen rule: one main task open at a time
Notification reduction: remove non-critical alerts
Write open loops down (externalise memory)
Single priority rule: choose one important task per day
Reduce stress inputs and fix sleep baseline

Canonical Statement

Noise Load measures cognitive interference. If noise is high, attention and judgement degrade and the system cannot repair consistently.
