For 2027 SEC G3, this guide uses syllabus K339: Humanities (Social Studies, Literature in Malay). For an unseen Malay Literature text, first establish what is happening, who is speaking and what the question asks. Then select a detail and explain its effect in context. Did you know that naming a literary device is only a starting point? The explanation must show what that choice contributes to this particular text.
Start with a short teacher-selected passage. Summarise its literal situation in one sentence, then locate a detail that helps answer the question. Discuss an uncertain word or reference before building an interpretation on it.
Need the format? Open the assessment table. Looking for immediate help? Use the starting questions and the original example. Then choose a practice step, or visit the all-subject directory.

Confirm K339 for Humanities with Literature in Malay; it is not the standalone K333 syllabus or Malay Language K321. Use school-confirmed materials for language practice. The original English-language vignette below isolates a reading habit and is not an official unseen Malay text.
For the wider context, open Social Studies and Malay Literature overview. Keep the confirmed subject, current school topic and teacher’s next suggested task in one place.
| Paper | Time | Marks / weight |
|---|---|---|
| 1: Social Studies | 1 hour 45 minutes | 50 / 50% |
| 2: Literature in Malay | 1 hour 40 minutes | 50 / 50% |
Both components are compulsory. Literature in Malay has a set-text section and an unseen literary-analysis section covering modern prose and poetry, with structured essays. Follow the syllabus’s choices and school guidance rather than assuming every question must be answered.
Open the official SEAB syllabus for the full requirements. Use that document with the school’s instructions when preparing assessment work.
Ask the student to describe the passage before listing techniques. If basic events or the speaker are unclear, reread and resolve those uncertainties first. If the literal meaning is secure, examine a change, contrast or repeated detail. Select only a feature that helps answer the question, not every feature you can name.
Choose one task that felt manageable and one that needs help. Discuss the difference using the student’s actual work. Ask the teacher to clarify an uncertain requirement before treating it as a learning weakness.
Try this original prose vignette: every evening a shopkeeper polishes the same empty display shelf. A customer asks when the goods will arrive. The shopkeeper pauses, then continues polishing. What impression does the repeated action create, and how does the pause affect your reading?
The continued polishing may suggest an effort to maintain routine despite uncertainty, while the pause draws attention to the unanswered question. These interpretations come from actions in the vignette. The passage does not establish a supply crisis or the shopkeeper’s finances. A useful answer explains the impression without inventing a backstory.
For a teacher-selected unseen Malay passage, note the literal situation, one relevant feature and its possible effect. Form the answer in Malay using accurate terms the school has taught. Check whether the explanation still works when read with the sentences around the selected detail.
After feedback, identify whether the difficulty was comprehension, selecting evidence, explaining an effect or expressing the idea. Those need different next steps. Try a fresh short passage and check the same skill again. Do not assume that an interpretation from one text should be carried unchanged into another, and keep Social Studies in the revision plan.
The Secondary 1 Mathematics learning guide offers a principle useful across subjects: identify the foundation, practise in a sensible sequence and use corrections to choose the next step. Apply that habit here through a task the student can explain and revisit.
