Did you know that SEC Arabic as a Third Language assesses standard Arabic through four papers? For the 2027 G3 examination, the syllabus code is K366. Recognising a word, understanding a recording and producing a reply are different learning tasks.
Writing contributes 20%, reading comprehension and language usage 30%, listening 20%, and oral 30%. Ask the school or programme provider about entry and lesson arrangements separately; the assessment document does not itself establish access to a course.

CHAPTER 1 OF 5
Which Arabic as a Third Language course and resources should we confirm?
Record the full course title, K366 and the examination year. Ask the teacher which textbooks, recordings and current practice materials match the registered course.
A broad language-learning resource can be enjoyable without answering the learner’s current examination question. Our suggested check is simple: which difficulty does this resource help the student work on?
If your child enters Secondary 1 in 2027, follow the programme’s current teaching sequence. This guide covers the 2027 examination cohort; obtain the appropriate graduating-year specification when available.
| K366 paper | Duration | Subject weighting |
|---|---|---|
| 1: Writing | 1h 45min | 20% |
| 2: Reading comprehension and language usage | 1h 15min | 30% |
| 3: Listening | Approximately 30min | 20% |
| 4: Oral | Approximately 15min | 30% |
Writing includes correspondence of 50–70 words and a composition of at least 170 words, using the specified task choices. An unannotated monolingual dictionary is permitted for Paper 1. Oral includes reading aloud and conversation.

Our suggested planning starts with a work sample. Was the difficulty understanding the message, choosing information or expressing a reply? Practise that step, then revisit the whole task.
Can the learner make room for regular short practice rather than relying only on occasional long revision? A useful family conversation starts with the actual weekly schedule.
Ask the teacher how written forms, pronunciation and meaning are introduced in the current course. Let that sequence guide home practice instead of collecting unrelated resources.
Confirm entry, course registration, lesson venue and travel with the school or provider. Do not assume an examination listing means every secondary school offers the subject.
Try a teacher-approved short recording and transcript. Listen once for the situation before looking at the text, then compare what you heard with what is written.
Choose one missed phrase and ask why it was difficult: an unfamiliar meaning, an unrecognised sound or trouble retrieving a familiar word? The answer points to a different next practice step.
Finally, give a short spoken response to the situation using language already taught. Have the teacher check it. This is a learning exercise, not an official listening or oral task.
Choose a short reading or listening activity from the teacher’s current materials, then connect it to a small spoken or written response. Give each activity a clear purpose.
Keep one corrected example and note what changed. Revisit it later, then use the idea in a different context with teacher feedback. Progress becomes easier to see when the learner can explain the improvement.
Avoid turning every home session into a full paper. Build the uncertain step first, then use appropriately timed work when the teacher judges it helpful.
