How Education System of Chile Works | Básica, Media, PAES and 2027 Admissions

Illustration of an imagined school library and classroom with books, geometry models and a distant mountain view.

Chile’s education system currently works through eight years of educación básica and four years of educación media, followed by university, professional-institute or technical-training pathways. The numbering is easy to misread: a child progresses from 1° to 8° básico, then starts again at 1° medio and finishes at 4° medio. A school-leaver may obtain the Licencia de Enseñanza Media, while a technical-professional secondary pupil can have additional title requirements. PAES, the university access examination, is a separate admissions instrument and is not itself a secondary graduation certificate.

The country’s administration also has several layers. The Ministry of Education (Mineduc) and its authorities establish the national framework; public schools are operated through municipalities or Servicios Locales de Educación Pública (SLEP) depending on their stage of transfer; privately managed state-subsidised schools and fully private schools follow different operating and admission conditions. The Sistema de Admisión Escolar (SAE) is the application channel for participating publicly funded schools. At higher education level, DEMRE, the Subsecretariat of Higher Education and individual institutions have specific assessment and selection functions.

October 2026 has three immediate facts for families. Applications through the main SAE period for school admission in 2027 were held in August 2026. PAES Regular 2026, for university admission in 2027, is scheduled for 30 November and 1–2 December 2026. The first FUAS application period for 2027 student financial support opened 1 October and has a published deadline of 22 October 2026. These are different systems with different deadlines. A further legal caution: the planned reorganisation into six basic plus six secondary school years was deferred to 2030, and the new university Ranking formula applies only from Admission 2028, not the 2027 cycle. This guide explains each step with sources and practical decisions.

Chile education system: answers immediately

Reader questionCorrect starting answer
What is the current school ladder?1°–8° básico, then 1°–4° medio; ordinarily twelve school years.
When does first básico start? At six years old by the current 31 March age cutoff, with formal rules for exceptions or special cases.
Is preschool the same as básico? No. Prekínder and kínder are distinct parvularia stages, not 1° básico.
Is education compulsory?Educación básica and media are compulsory under Chilean law, with actual entry and completion provisions.
Who administers public schools?Public schools still belong to applicable municipal or transferred SLEP structures; transfers occur on staged timetables.
How are state-funded school places allocated?SAE, according to preferences, legal priorities and vacancies for participating schools.
What is SIMCE?National learning assessment; not an individual’s school-leaving diploma or a university entry examination.
How do students complete secondary school?Meet the school programme’s requirements for Licencia de Enseñanza Media; technical professional titling may follow additional procedures.
What is PAES?University entrance testing with required and elective components, alongside NEM, Ranking and programme weights.
PAES Regular 2026 test dates?30 November, 1 December and 2 December 2026, for Admission 2027.
Are all higher-education providers required to use PAES?No. CFT and IP technical-professional admission uses institution-specific routes rather than universal PAES selection.
How does FUAS work?Separate socio-economic application for state scholarships, grants, gratuidad and loans, subject to eligibility and verification.
When is the new ranking system introduced?Admission 2028, not Admission 2027.
Did the 6+6 school structure begin in 2026?No. Law 21.806 deferred the structural change to 2030, with further study required in 2028.

Decision chain: lawful enrolment → school/provider and programme → real teaching → classroom and national assessment → school-leaving award → tertiary application → financial support and enrolment.

Why Chile’s current school ladder is eight plus four

In 2026, the ordinary school route remains 1°–8° básico, followed by 1°–4° medio. A learner completing 8° básico has finished the primary/básica stage; 1° medio is the ninth school year in the typical uninterrupted sequence. The names matter when interpreting transcripts and entrance requirements.

Chile’s education law envisaged a future six-year básica plus six-year media structure, but this is not yet the operating year-level arrangement. The 2026 Law 21.806, Article 112, deferred the change from 2026 to the 2030 school year and required a prospective study in 2028 assessing costs, infrastructure, teacher preparation and curricula.

The word “will” is essential. Families choosing a school for 2027 should not change their child’s grade labels to an imagined 6+6 structure. A proposed future configuration and the grades currently taught are different facts.

The typical progression ages are about six to thirteen for básico and fourteen to seventeen for media. But individual pupils can be older after interrupted schooling, repetition or international transfer. The receiving school and official procedures decide placement under the applicable rules.

A reliable school comparison therefore begins with completed curriculum and the actual next qualification, not a conversion table that ignores the country and school year.

Compulsory education and what parents must check

Chile’s national framework makes basic and secondary school education compulsory. This is not equivalent to an obligation to attend a particular private school or an assumption that every teenager automatically completes 4° medio on their eighteenth birthday.

School entry involves age criteria and the actual recognised prior stage. A child who attended preschool abroad may still need a receiving institution’s determination before starting first básico. A teenager arriving midway through media may need prior-learning recognition and a suitable admission route.

The Mineduc age requirements page explains the ordinary thresholds. Families near the cutoff or with an interrupted school history should consult the actual school and Ayuda Mineduc rather than rely on advice from another country.

Compulsory attendance is not itself evidence of successful learning. A learner who missed an entire mathematics topic needs targeted instruction even if their administrative grade has advanced. A school should identify that need without making the pupil feel academically incapable.

A family filing system should keep identity, previous classes, verified grades, the intended school and any support eligibility together, while avoiding unnecessary sharing of personal records with private agents.

Preschool and the first básico year

Prekínder and kínder are part of educación parvularia, generally associated with four- and five-year-old children respectively, under the relevant admission criteria. First básico is a separate formal school stage and ordinarily starts at six years old by the 31 March cutoff.

A preschool should support speaking, listening, early number sense, play, coordination, curiosity and participation. It is not merely a preparation course for PAES, SIMCE or other examinations many years away.

A simple number exercise can show a child that twelve objects may be arranged in three equal groups of four or four equal groups of three. Ask them to explain why both arrangements contain twelve. Such reasoning becomes useful in multiplication and division.

Storytelling develops comprehension. A learner who can explain why a character acted a certain way is practising cause and inference. A child who can pronounce individual words but cannot explain a story may need meaning-focused instruction.

Parents should check language support, school climate, accessibility and teacher communication. An early learner benefits from a welcoming and organised transition rather than an accelerated stack of grade-level worksheets.

How public-school administration is being transferred

Chile has public schools and several privately administered categories. Its public system is undergoing a staged transition from municipal administration toward Servicios Locales de Educación Pública (SLEP) under the Nueva Educación Pública model.

This change is administrative as well as educational. A service’s legal establishment, its preparation period and the actual transfer of school administration are different events. The Directorate of Public Education and its regional materials provide the current operational picture.

A family should identify the sostenedor responsible for the school today. A school with a municipal history may now belong to a SLEP, while another may be awaiting transfer. An older directory cannot always answer which provider currently handles an enrolment or school-management issue.

The student’s teacher and school leadership remain the first points of contact for individual academic support. The responsible provider and national/regional authorities have other functions, such as administration, planning and monitoring.

A change in governance does not mean every school instantaneously receives identical staff, facilities or programmes. Policy implementation should be evaluated through real classroom delivery and learning outcomes.

Types of schools and why funding category matters

Chile’s school network includes public, privately operated state-subsidised and fully private establishments, among other specific arrangements. Financing and administrative responsibilities differ, as can admission routes. Families should check the institution’s official status rather than infer it from its name.

A fully private paid school may use a different admission process from one in SAE. A publicly funded school covered by SAE cannot necessarily choose applicants simply on the basis of an interview or past grades where the rules require the common admission system.

However, school type is not a ranking of academic quality. A state-subsidised provider may have excellent classroom practice, while a prestigious private school may not match a particular learner’s needs. Teacher feedback, safety, language support and actual courses matter.

Fees should be assessed together with transport, meals, uniforms, learning materials and any support programmes. Families should distinguish mandatory charges from optional services and confirm details with the actual institution.

The most reliable choice process compares authorised programmes, available places, route to graduation and the child’s academic and practical circumstances—not just marketing claims.

How SAE school admissions actually allocate places

The Sistema de Admisión Escolar (SAE) allows families to apply to participating publicly funded schools. Its process uses a ranked list of preferences, legal priority criteria and available vacancies. It is not a national examination of a child’s intelligence or a guarantee of acceptance at the family’s first listed school.

The Directorate’s 4 August 2026 announcement reported that the main application period for 2027 places opened on 4 August and closed on 27 August 2026. Additional complementary and regularisation phases follow the official calendar. Families applying after the main window must use the appropriate current phase.

The 2026 admission-calendar resolution is the legal source for the actual timeline. Do not assume that a date from 2025 automatically applies in a later cycle.

A family should list realistic programmes in a genuine order of preference and confirm transport and support needs before accepting an offer. The existence of an offered place and the learning experience at the school are related but separate.

If a child has no school place after the normal allocation, use the official Anótate en la Lista or other designated regularisation procedure rather than trusting a private agent claiming to control the algorithm.

Básica: build learning across eight years

Educación básica covers eight years, with increasingly demanding literacy, mathematics, sciences, social studies and other subjects. The curriculum is set through official Chilean educational frameworks and implemented at the actual school.

A child who understands place value in early primary can later use that concept for decimals and percentages. For example, if 20% of 150 is required, the answer is 30. Ask the pupil to explain that 20% is one-fifth and why 150 ÷ 5 = 30. A new task can ask what whole has 20% equal to 30, giving 150.

Reading comprehension similarly develops from recognising words to identifying arguments and evidence. A school should check whether a student can summarise a passage, distinguish fact from inference and explain why a detail supports a conclusion.

A report card provides information about achievement, but it should not be reduced to a ranking of the pupil’s inherent ability. A child may be capable of strong reasoning and still need support with academic Spanish or a particular mathematics prerequisite.

By 7° and 8° básico, families should begin thinking about secondary options and subject interests without treating that stage as a final career decision.

What SIMCE measures and what it cannot tell you

SIMCE, Chile’s national student learning assessment, provides evidence about educational outcomes in designated grades and subjects. It is administered through the relevant national quality-assurance framework, rather than being a licence, diploma or university entrance test.

The Agencia de Calidad de la Educación SIMCE portal explains the testing and results system. A school may use SIMCE findings to understand weaknesses in reading or mathematics and improve teaching.

A pupil who receives low marks in a topic cannot necessarily be diagnosed simply from an aggregate school SIMCE result. The teacher should examine the learner’s actual work. An apparently strong school average also does not mean every child has mastered every grade-level concept.

National comparisons require caution over year, sample and tested content. If an assessment changes its framework or the measured population differs, old scores may not be directly comparable.

Families should ask schools how they use SIMCE to improve classroom learning, not merely how they advertise a favourable number in a ranking.

Media: general, artistic and technical-professional routes

Educación media includes scientific-humanistic (HC), technical-professional (TP) and artistic options, each with its own curriculum and later opportunities. A pupil may choose a route based on interests, school offerings and the qualifications required by the intended destination.

A scientific-humanistic route generally focuses on academic learning, while TP programmes combine general education with occupational preparation. Artistic education has its own specialised purpose. The labels do not automatically prove how well an individual school teaches.

A technical student may learn practical skills in addition to mathematics and language. A classroom on electrical systems can involve proportional reasoning, scientific concepts and safe supervised practice. A workshop with impressive equipment is not necessarily delivering meaningful instruction unless learners can demonstrate competence.

For a student considering university, subject preparation is essential. A student interested in engineering may need stronger mathematics, irrespective of whether their secondary route is HC or TP. A learner planning an artistic course may need a portfolio or entrance task.

Career guidance should produce a concrete map: current programme, expected school award, available higher-education options, admission requirements and costs. The best route is the one that supports a credible next step for that student.

The Licencia de Enseñanza Media and the technical title are different

Students who successfully complete the relevant secondary programme may obtain the Licencia de Enseñanza Media, an important recognised school-leaving document. In a technical-professional route, obtaining the associated Técnico de Nivel Medio title can also require specific practical training and an additional titling process.

These should not be treated as identical milestones. Finishing 4° medio may make a learner eligible for the licence while a professional practice or other formal titling step remains necessary for the technical title under the applicable conditions.

That distinction matters for employment and higher-education applications. A student should provide the exact document requested and preserve school records and technical practice evidence.

An online article should not simply promise that every TP graduate immediately receives the same occupational status. The correct programme and qualification rules decide what has been awarded.

Families can ask the school for a written explanation of graduation, titling, recognition and later study routes. This is often more useful than a general prospectus promising “technical opportunities.”

How PAES, NEM and Ranking form an application score

PAES is the university access examination system. For centralised applications to participating universities, admission can depend on several factors: PAES Competencia Lectora, Matemática 1 (M1), at least one elective Sciences or History/Social Sciences, additional M2 where required, Notas de Enseñanza Media (NEM) and the Ranking score.

A university programme sets weights and may impose further requirements. A student can obtain a high score in one test but still lack a required M2 sitting or not meet a programme’s minimum eligibility. The DEMRE official factors guide explains the combined selection framework.

NEM reflects the student’s secondary academic grades converted under official rules. Ranking measures school results relative to a defined reference context, not merely a second copy of NEM. These should not be interpreted as raw percentages of correct answers.

The meaningful task is to check the exact course’s published weighting and requirements before deciding which PAES papers to take. An applicant with a particular medical or engineering ambition may need M2 or other specific conditions.

An admissions score can determine eligibility to compete but does not itself issue a place; offers are made through the participating institutions’ authorised selection process.

Why M2 cannot be left until after PAES registration

The Competencia Matemática 2 (M2) test is required by certain university courses, often in mathematically demanding fields. A student who registers for M1 does not automatically receive an M2 sitting without correctly selecting it in the admission portal.

The Mineduc 1 June 2026 PAES announcement expressly warned students to register for M2 if their intended programme requires it. The relevant official documentation says M2 can be registered at no additional cost when paired with M1 under the published 2026 conditions, but both must be selected.

A good academic plan begins with programme prerequisites, then examination registration, then targeted study. Reversing the order can leave a student with strong results in the wrong combination of tests.

Mathematics preparation should emphasise functions, algebra, data and problem modelling at the required level. A learner who memorises old solutions but cannot apply the same concept to a new question is not ready for a competence-oriented examination.

Families should keep proof of registration and use official DEMRE materials. No tutor should promise that an unregistered paper will be added informally after the deadline.

PAES Regular 2026: exact current dates

For Admission 2027, PAES Regular is scheduled for 30 November, 1 December and 2 December 2026. The published registration period was 1 June to 22 July 2026, without a further extension under the announced arrangement.

The Mineduc admissions announcement gives the examination dates and the projected next stages. Scores are scheduled for release on 4 January 2027, with university applications from 4 to 7 January and selection results on 18 January 2027. Applicants should check for any official changes before relying on an itinerary.

The winter PAES was held 15–17 June 2026 and was limited to eligible prior secondary graduates. A pupil currently completing 4° medio cannot substitute that earlier winter sitting for the normal 2026 Regular process merely because both count toward Admission 2027.

Deadlines have different meanings. Examination registration is not the same as sitting, score publication, programme application or final enrolment. Missing one can affect the next.

International applicants must also verify identity and recognition procedures; the Acceso portal gives relevant administrative guidance. Do not submit sensitive credentials through unofficial services.

The Ranking reform is for Admission 2028, not 2027

Chile is changing its Ranking de Notas calculation, but the timing is often misunderstood. The government’s explanation states that the Nuevo Ranking applies from Admission 2028, corresponding to an application process in 2027.

The existing calculation remains relevant for the 2027 university intake. The future reform aims to improve fairness by considering relative academic performance in the student’s school context differently from the earlier bonus-like structure.

A family planning university in 2027 should therefore use the current published admission weighting and formula, not a speculative ranking number derived from the 2028 methodology. Otherwise, even a mathematically tidy calculation can give the wrong conclusion.

Applicants should obtain official NEM and Ranking results through the authorised system and check for record errors promptly. A tutor cannot change an official secondary-grade record or calculate a binding ranking result from unverified data.

This is a useful general rule for comparing modern school systems: announced change, legal effective date and first affected cohort are three different facts.

Technical higher education: CFT and IP without universal PAES

Chile’s higher-education technical-professional sector includes Centros de Formación Técnica (CFT) and Institutos Profesionales (IP). These institutions use their own admissions conditions under the relevant education law and recognition framework. PAES is not universally required for entry to their technical programmes.

On 7 October 2026, Mineduc reported that more than 40 participating technical-professional higher-education institutions had opened admissions for 2027 without requiring PAES. This is a useful concrete distinction between the university centralised selection route and technical-professional entry.

A technical title, a professional title and an academic degree such as licenciatura are not necessarily identical. Students should check the course’s qualification and whether it allows or transfers into their intended further study.

A programme advertising engineering, health or computing should be evaluated by the actual subjects, supervised practical elements, recognised credential and professional requirements. The word ingeniería in a course title does not by itself settle legal professional registration or degree level.

Family planning should include tuition, materials, commuting, placement and financial aid eligibility. A route without PAES can be rigorous and valuable while still having its own formal admission conditions.

The 2027 FUAS deadline and what it does not guarantee

The Formulario Único de Acreditación Socioeconómica (FUAS) is used to apply for eligible Chilean higher-education benefits, including Gratuidad, scholarships and student financing under the published programmes.

Mineduc’s 1 October 2026 release states that the initial 2027 application window opened on 1 October and closes Thursday, 22 October 2026. This is only days after this article’s review date and is therefore time-sensitive. Applicants must recheck any official extension or later window.

FUAS is a financial assessment process, not a university admissions test. A student can apply for aid without yet having PAES results, but qualification for a benefit depends on socioeconomic and institutional eligibility and other conditions.

Gratuidad does not mean every student at every private institution receives all education and living expenses free. The authorised participating institution, household and programme requirements matter; other costs may remain.

Applicants should maintain their own secure account, verify their socioeconomic data and follow official communications. Do not pay third parties promising guaranteed benefits or share passwords.

Recognition, inclusion and student support

A foreign student entering Chile or a returning family may need formal validation or recognition of previous school studies, identity documents and suitable placement. The Ayuda Mineduc services provide official routes for school-related procedures and support.

A student with previous secondary learning should supply authentic subjects and grades. The receiving school and authority determine equivalence and placement; a foreign class label cannot alone authorise Chilean 3° medio registration.

Inclusion services may support pupils with disabilities or particular education needs through authorised school provisions. A family should ask what arrangements actually operate at the intended establishment and whether assessments can be adapted as legally appropriate.

Language can be a barrier. A student whose previous education was in English may understand a science concept but struggle to express it in academic Spanish. The school needs to distinguish conceptual knowledge from language fluency.

Families should treat student records and support information privately, using approved school channels. Posting a complete transcript or disability assessment publicly is not necessary for general educational advice.

Worked case: a family applies through SAE for 2027

Imagine a fictional parent seeking a place for a child entering 7° básico in 2027. They believe that putting one desired school on a list means SAE must allocate that place.

Start by checking the official 2026 SAE timeline and the school’s participation and available programme. The family should compare a realistic set of schools, understand preferences and legal priorities, and submit through the authorised application and subsequent phases.

Next assess the child’s learning needs: commute, language support, existing mathematics foundations and the intended secondary progression. A school with a strong reputation but an impractical journey might not be the best fit.

The family should keep application confirmation, allocated place information and any official regularisation messages. A private tutor cannot influence the allocation algorithm or promise a preferential place.

A good next step combines a lawful placement with a short academic preparation plan rather than focusing only on one administrative outcome.

Worked case: a 4° medio student compares PAES choices

A fictional Chilean 4° medio pupil wants to study engineering but initially registered only for M1, reading and science. They assume advanced mathematics can be added later if their scores are good.

The correct first question is whether the intended universities require M2. The 2026 PAES instructions say M2 needs explicit registration under the applicable deadline. A missing exam cannot be replaced by tutoring promises.

Academically, the student should diagnose functions and algebra. A worked illustration asks: A linear cost model is C(x) = 3x + 500. For 200 units, the total is 1,100; if the total is 1,400, x must be 300. The student should explain the units and how the intercept and slope function.

Then inspect the programme’s NEM, Ranking and PAES weights and estimate possibilities using official—not invented—conversion guidance. Qualification and admissions decisions remain the university’s responsibility.

The pupil should also investigate a recognised technical-professional alternative without assuming it is academically inferior or identical to the preferred degree.

Worked case: a técnico-profesional pupil plans further study

A fictional student completes 4° medio in a technical-professional speciality. They think the Licencia de Enseñanza Media automatically proves that their technical title has been awarded and that every professional institute will grant advanced credit.

The school should explain the titling/practical training process, what remains to be completed and which official document will be issued. The receiving CFT or IP determines whether prior modules are credited under a written agreement.

A mathematics diagnostic might ask for a 15% surcharge on 160,000 Chilean pesos. Fifteen percent is 24,000, so the final amount is 184,000 pesos. The learner should then explain which is the base amount and why adding 15 pesos would be incorrect.

This example shows how practical professions still rely on accurate calculation, communication and reasoning. It does not itself establish occupational competence or credit transfer.

The student should compare programme accreditation, fees, laboratory or workplace components and whether the next qualification has the expected career value.

Worked case: an overseas pupil enters 1° medio

A fictional fourteen-year-old arrives from Singapore with a foreign secondary report and good mathematics but limited academic Spanish. Their family assumes that because the pupil is fourteen, 1° medio is guaranteed.

The receiving institution needs recognised previous grades, subjects, identity and placement documentation. The appropriate procedure may involve study validation and official instructions from Ayuda Mineduc. Age is one piece of evidence, not the sole decision.

A short mathematics test asks for three-quarters of 64, giving 48. Then present the same reasoning in a Spanish narrative. If the numeric idea is secure but the wording causes an error, teach mathematical Spanish; do not force a full repeat of primary arithmetic without evidence.

For reading, ask the learner to summarise an unfamiliar Spanish passage and identify a supporting detail. For science, ask which variables should be controlled in a fair test.

A four-week bridge can support entry while the school handles the formal process. Academic help cannot replace an official recognition decision.

Four weeks of preparation before a major transition

Week 1: Identify the real gate—SAE, 8° básico to media, technical title, PAES, CFT/IP or university. Collect current official rules and authentic schoolwork. Test reading, numeracy and a subject explanation.

Week 2: Repair one or two unstable prerequisites. A student might need fractions and algebra, or academic Spanish. Teach the meaning, use guided examples and ask for an independent explanation.

Week 3: Vary the task. A pupil who calculates a 20% discount should be able to solve a reverse problem: after a 20% reduction an item costs 72, so the original price was 90. Ask why dividing by 0.8 is correct.

Week 4: Use unseen tasks and compare with the baseline. Confirm examination registration, admissions applications, award documents and FUAS separately. A student who is ready academically may still need a formal application, and a complete application does not guarantee that the learner has mastered every prerequisite.

The goal is demonstrated improvement without false assurances of admission, scholarship or exam outcome.

How to compare schools and tutoring support

Parents should compare the actual curriculum and subject offerings, the school’s response to misconceptions, accessible support, and practical conditions including transport. A favourable SIMCE result may be one piece of evidence but not a complete measure of educational fit.

A tutor should specify the child’s existing knowledge, the missing concept and how progress will be checked. Repeating many PAES questions may improve familiarity but cannot compensate for missing algebraic understanding if the tasks are never explained.

For media students, understand the intended HC, TP or artistic qualification and its later options. For technical courses, verify practical supervision and recognised titling. For university, use programme-specific PAES requirements and official weights.

Trustworthy advice does not promise that one school choice permanently determines a career. It identifies the strongest plausible next route while making prerequisites and alternative pathways clear.

Families should expect a student to grow more independent at tackling new problems, not merely better at recalling yesterday’s worked example.

What a responsible Chile education dashboard should measure

A useful dashboard distinguishes school enrolment, attendance, learning quality, SIMCE outcomes, media completion, technical qualification, PAES participation, offers, CFT/IP admission and actual continuation or graduation.

The SAE process also requires distinct reporting stages: applications, assigned places, accepted allocations, completed registration and attendance. These cannot be collapsed into a single “demand for the best schools” ranking.

Policy reform needs cohort labels. The planned 2030 structural change does not alter the 2026 8+4 grade map, and the Admission 2028 Ranking must not be applied prematurely to Admission 2027. Similarly, a school transferred to a SLEP should be counted according to the date it actually changed administration.

Financial support requires another chain: FUAS application, socio-economic verification, benefit award and actual enrolment at an eligible institution. A person can complete one step without yet obtaining the next.

Strong education evidence respects the actual purpose and limitations of every instrument. That makes school and career choices more reliable than broad rankings or undated advice.

Frequently asked questions

Does Chile have eight years of básica and four of media in 2026?

Yes. That remains the normal 2026 school ladder. A planned 6+6 restructuring was deferred to 2030.

Is a child required to complete prekínder to enter first básico?

Preschool and first básico are distinct. Use the actual legal age and admission rules; preschool attendance should not be assumed to be a universal mandatory prerequisite.

What is SAE?

The school-admission system for participating publicly funded schools, using preferences, legal priorities and vacancies.

Is SIMCE a school-leaving examination?

No. It is a national learning assessment, distinct from Licencia de Enseñanza Media and university entry.

Is a technical secondary title automatic after 4° medio?

Not necessarily. Technical-professional titling can require specified practice and completion steps separate from the school licence.

When is PAES Regular 2026?

30 November and 1–2 December 2026, for Admission 2027.

Does M2 register automatically when someone chooses M1?

No. Students must select M2 where required according to the published registration rules.

Does the new Ranking apply to Admission 2027?

No. The changed formula is planned from Admission 2028.

Must every applicant to a CFT or IP take PAES?

No. Technical-professional higher-education institutions use their own admissions arrangements and many do not require PAES.

Is the FUAS 2027 deadline 22 October 2026?

That is the published initial application deadline as of this review. Check official updates for any extension or later application process.

Can a private tutor guarantee a university place or gratuidad?

No. Tutors may improve learning; the authorised admission and funding bodies control those decisions.
